Dems have been extremely successful with these tactics. Trump has been very effective yet the constant smears & hoaxes have kept his approval down. If you can’t compete on the data, attack the person. Lockdowns are proof this battle is literally to the death.
It doesn't seem like the Dems have been successful at all.
What have they actually achieved? Trump is still in office. Trump support has proved incredibly sticky at the margins, and the people who dislike him now that liked him in 2016 are the same chunk of the undecided population that wavers on every election.
I think this Obamagate nonsense is going to make anyone who supports it look unserious and petty.
It is still unclear to me what this has to do with the lockdown.
You are one of the few people I've ever met who dislikes Trump but recognizes TDS is a real thing. I live among TDS sufferers, and when I go to California, TDS is unbelievably prevalent. TDS is a result of propaganda, not logic. It may seem like the endless stream of hoaxes and personal attacks on Trump would be counter-productive, but I know many intelligent people who are total believers; rationality has nothing to do with it. Without the negative indoctrination, Trump's approval would be 75-80%, and Rs would easily carry The House. This new normal is the only way egalitarians can hope to keep their gains.
I just had the argument elsewhere with one who insisted that "Trump made a policy to separate children from their parents at the border"... They even provided a link to a factcheck.org page on it...
Umm, no, if you actually read the page - yes, they try to "spin" it that way, but if you read it you find that Trump's "policy" is to detain and prosecute ALL illegal border crossers, rather than previous administrations that would release them into the country basically on a promise to appear in court (to which they would promptly disappear). A *side-effect* of detaining the parents, just as with any criminal legal citizen, is that since a child with them committed no crime they get separated until other family can be found to take them (or they stay in the custody of child services). It's simply a by-product of the law, not "policy".
...since he couldn't actually come up with a counter to that he resorted to the old standby of name calling, so obviously I'm just a xenophobic Nazi sympathizer.
"People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome."
