We don't even really need to stay home like Californians and Michigans are supposed to do, though. If everybody wore masks and we all implemented basic hygiene measures, we'd probably keep the growth linear like it was until things started opening up.

Yeah, because everybody else loves being unemployed. It's only conservatives that like great depression living.DBTrek wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 4:22 pmIt could be that "conservatives" hate science, worship money, and want everyone to die.
Or . . . it could be that conservatives have to work to feed their families, while wards of the state don't, so they're struggling with a multitude of problems and concerns that the idle know nothing about.

Perhaps consider that your ideas of reopening the economy with fuck all mitigation efforts in place is going to make the economy worse in the long run. I mean LMFAO. For once, be honest about what others are arguing. This time it is kind of serious.
You realize the nothing really has changed? It's the same disease. The infections are growing exponentially. We just passed 60k deaths today and not even 5% of the population has been infected by the virus yet. What the fuck do you think is going to happen?

I never floated any "reopen the economy with no safety measures" idea.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 4:25 pm

And even if I did, it wouldn't really affect you, would it?
You're not out there.
You're at home, waiting for that check that covers your expenses.
That check that's coming no matter what, so it affords you all sorts of room to cast stones at those who don't have the same luxury.
And I'm not begrudging you your situation, you served country and apparently became injured in the process. But you may want to consider that everyone doesn't have it so easy. Instead of assuming those who don't agree with you are a bunch of devil-goblins and caricatures why not realize you live a pretty charmed existence? Why not admit that you don't have to worry about your rent getting paid, or getting money for food next week. Ever. All that is just handed to you.
But a lot of those angry people you're lampooning - they don't get that.
They're looking at risking a low fatality virus, or losing their homes and having no food.
There making choices you'll never have to.

That's a great argument (not). Ad hodimen fallacy, deflection from what we all have clearly seen you post, yada yada. If you can't respond to an argument, just attack the person. Oh, your a disabled veteran, well fuck you! Your opinion is of no account.
Or.. FUCK YOU
For once in this forum's history, be honest, man. For fuck sake. What the fuck do you think is going to happen as a result of opening up the economy with next to no mitigation measures in place? We don't have widespread testing sites. We don't have enough masks. We don't even have enough PPE for our ICUs. Literally nothing is in place to do this shit right now.

Actually, yes it is. That's a log scale. The easiest way to recognize an exponential growth function is to chart the data on a log scale and see if you can curve fit a diagonal line.pineapplemike wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 4:36 pm
maybe i don't math good but this doesn't strike me as exponential

That's exponential growth. Textbook depiction of.
I am not sure what it is, and it does look like it could level off and stop exponential growth soon after the end of the graph. But that is still exponential leading up to to the tail end of it.
Not sure what the bottom chart is supposed to show me.

Problems encountered by people who can't rely on others to foot their bills, reliably, every month.Dallas salon owner who reopened despite coronavirus restrictions gets 7 days in jail
A Texas salon owner was given seven days in jail on Tuesday after she refused to apologize for defying coronavirus related restrictions by remaining open for business.
Dallas business owner Shelley Luther was given a choice: She could offer an apology for selfishness, pay a fine and shutdown until Friday, or serve jail time.
"I have to disagree with you, sir, when you say that I'm selfish because feeding my kids is not selfish," she told the judge. "I have hairstylists that are going hungry because they would rather feed their kids. So sir, if you think the law is more important than kids getting fed, then please go ahead with your decision. But I am not going to shut the salon." ...

Those charts are not very useful. Check out the main site:
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
It is still exponential worldwide. Parts of the US are still in exponential growth.
NYT has good data visualization lately too.
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/202 ... cases.html
That one actually shows you where mitigation efforts are working and where we are still seeing exponential growth in the US.
The main caveat here is this: Trump still controls access to testing. So the total test count is bullshit. You really have to just look at the deaths to get an idea of what is going down. Only the sickest can get tests. We have no idea what is actually going on in this country in terms of the disease's spread, and that's mostly Trump's fault, though it's being carried out by the CDC and the FDC on his behalf. Some states have smuggled tests into the country and hiding them from the federal government so that they are not stolen. It is unclear what will happen when they attempt widespread community testing. I think he will try to confiscate the tests, but who knows, really.
