When has the flu ever resulted in hospitals being overwhelmed? When have we had bodies stacking up fast they they can be buried due to the flu? This is not the flu.
Overwhelmed with what? They are empty and the nurses are busy twerking
You're right, EVERY single nurse in the world has nothing to do but make tik tok videos.

I now know people who have died from this. It's only a joke in some places because it hasn't hit them there yet.

Now go ahead and start claiming that I want the economy to die and everyone to be unemployed. Don't even bother to think about how we can start to open things up slowly and safely without doing a full-on opening of the flood gates and risk more New Yorks. I'm all for getting things up and running, but blind rhetoric is not helpful and only leads to the same entrenched bullshit we've had for the past how many years. For once we all have a common enemy and we still can't be civil with each other.
It's interesting that the doomsayers will start freaking out when you even imply that the restrictive lockdowns are the disproportionate to the effects of the virus. I know people both who have had the virus, and who have died from the virus, and yet I don't think the correct solution to the pandemic is to rob people of their livelihoods in exchange for some imagined safety from the virus. A vaccine isn't going to come down from on high and save us all before the unemployed lose their ability to take care of their families. Government isn't going to be able to dole out the checks fast enough.

It seems like people who used to complain about government incompetence now expect them to act in a way that will make a sustained lockdown possible with only minor negative effects.

"Don't worry, we can go out of lockdown when a vaccine is developed. We can indefinitely stay in lockdown until the vaccine is developed because we can put a moratorium on debt, blah blah blah."

It's pie-in-the-sky optimism reframed. The best case scenario for our ability to continue functioning as a Union is to ease lockdown restrictions, and get back to work. The best case scenario for the United States as a whole is to do away with the idea that preserving the Union should even be a priority.

Also, civility in politics has been dead for over a century, sir.

If you live in the world the facts are there whether you choose to believe them or not. Like covid. It's just a biological program run amok. It doesn't care if you believe in it or not. It doesn't care if you don't understand how how to calculate mortality rates or whether you confuse exponential growth with linear growth. Maybe you get it, feel a little sick, and get better with no problems. Then you can carry on and proclaim it's all fake and gay. I really hope that happens. But facts are real things out there, not opinions or beliefs. More than a few of you here, it seems to me, are making ideological decisions about how to respond to the virus and that's a recipe for getting hurt. Then there is the understandable grief for not just the economic loss but the possibility that the kind of society we had is fundamentally altered and nobody really knows what comes next. This sucks for most of us. I guess we all deal with it in different ways.
Sex with individuals outside your household is the ultimate violation of those rules. Not only are you having sex with everybody they had sex with, you are coming into bodily contact with everyone that came into contact with. This virus doesn't care if you wore a mask if another person is not, same with gloves and you don't take them off properly. Nor does it care if you followed the Governor's orders or not. Unless you test the woman before you mount her you are engaged in as risky behavior as anybody else, baby.

Hey, I am married, but if I was single I would be doing what I need to do "to take care of myself", but I wouldn't act all high and mighty lecturing others about Social distancing and lockdowns. Herr Speaker isn't getting away with that type of shit.

An interesting alternative way of looking at the impact is the total death counts.
Total deaths in seven states that have been hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic are nearly 50 percent higher than normal for the five weeks from March 8 through April 11, according to new death statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That is 9,000 more deaths than were reported as of April 11 in official counts of deaths from the coronavirus.

The new data is partial and most likely undercounts the recent death toll significantly. But it still illustrates how the coronavirus is causing a surge in deaths in the places it has struck, probably killing more people than the reported statistics capture. These increases belie arguments that the virus is only killing people who would have died anyway from other causes. Instead, the virus has brought a pattern of deaths unlike anything seen in recent years.

If you look at the provisional deaths from all causes, death counts in New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Massachusetts, Illinois, Maryland and Colorado have spiked far above their normal levels for the period. In New York City, the home of the biggest outbreak, the number of deaths over this period is more than three times the normal number. (Recent data suggests it could have reached six times higher than normal.)

If you think about all the deaths that should not be occuring because we are not driving as much, taking recreational risks, etc. those are a lot more deaths either directly or indirectly as a consequence of covid.
