All the liberty-loathers would have to admit this virus came from a communist country. You might say, that China is corrupt, and that bribes were given to the local Party leaders to ignore this. I'd counter, that is true, but first giving the government more power doesn't make them immune to bribes, it simply makes it less likely for them to have any repercussions from accepting them. Second, the local Wuhan Party boss had to get permission from his little Pinko butt buddies to even admit to the world that this was a serious problem to begin with. My view is still the same. I do not know a single person who has this overblown China Flu. It is mostly old people who are dying. It is mostly confined to NY. I have not changed my behavior. I still go to work same schedule. I still hang out with the same ppl. And none of them know anyone who has this.

What goalposts are moved? Idk the numbers, but lets say I have a 1/1000 chance of dying in a car crash? If I or someone I know dies in a car crash, that doesn't change my position. CCCP in response to auto accidents is still evil as fuck. America wins. Period.

I also am not using past precedent to navigate the present. Much of America's history has been liberty hating. The "fairness" doctrine was an Orwellian tactic used to stifle free speech on the airwaves for generations. The fire in a crowded theater doctrine was an overturned case that was a grotesque violation of free speech. America has always had folks in power who hated liberty. Don't care. All with different goals in mind to give the hospital room to treat incoming patients, to produce the ventilators necessary, or to flatten the curve. All those excuses have started to fade away as field hospitals got zero patients despite anticipation, as ER's closed or rerouted incoming, as the curve has flattened like one of Monty's schoolgirls. You don't see the people not getting MRI's, not getting biopsies, the lupus and cancer patients not getting treatment. When they die, you know what happens?
