Not voting for Trump would work at punishing failure at the presidential level. You probably are not going to get a good president no matter what happens. But you sure as shit have the power to punish failure right now.Xenophon wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 8:48 amSo voting doesn't work, unless you say it does. About 5% in the US right now. But it's not just the mortality rate that you need to look at. You also need to consider the infectiousness. If some random disease arrived with the exact same mortality as influenza, for example, but was twice as infectious, then it would be considerably deadlier.pineapplemike wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 8:52 amwhats the current mortality rate at? that'll significantly impact my accountability indexSpeaker to Animals wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 8:46 amStep 1: don't vote for him.

Nobody should be making decisions of any importance who did these things. You punish failures like these; not reward it.
This disease right now is about 40 times more lethal than influenza and at least 4 times more infectious.

No. It's called personal accountability. You should try it.Xenophon wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 8:53 amSo personal catharsis?Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 8:52 amNot voting for Trump would work at punishing failure at the presidential level. Voting doesn't work, but you should do it anyway because if you don't you're not taking personal responsibility for the outcome of your vote. Because as we all know, voting matters, except when it doesn't.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 9:03 amYou're welcome. Then don't vote and you get the same effect. I am totally cool with you agreeing not to vote.Xenophon wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 9:04 amVoting doesn't work, but you should do it anyway because if you don't you're not taking personal responsibility for the outcome of your vote. It’s almost as if our system has been subverted to completely avoid accountability.

Re: I don't like Trump
Ok, thank you for explaining where you're coming from. I see why you feel that Trump is culpable for a less-than-perfect response. However, I think you assign blame too narrowly, and suspect conspiracy where simple ineptitude is the most obvious culprit.
The FDA and CDC have their own (Trump appointed) directors, and are big, slow, monolithic bureaucracies. That's under every president, not just this one. They tried to shut down Dr. Chu's research because she was receiving federal funding to study one virus, but changed her focus to COVID-19. Guess what you're not supposed to do with federal funds - use them for other than their stated purpose. So the government bureaucracy was doing what is was supposed to while Dr. Chu was taking a gamble on trying to do the right thing.
Kind of a nothing-burger story there. Dr. Chu went rogue, thankfully, and misused government funds to the greater good of America. The agencies did what they were supposed to, and instructed her to stop misusing funds. No one was arrested. No labs were raided. If the government was really trying to pull off some grand conspiracy to stop Dr. Chu she would've vanished into a black site long before you ever knew her name.
But how are the states doing? Particularly, that Democrat stronghold - NY?
Yikes!Cuomo doubles down on ordering nursing homes to admit coronavirus patients

Let's take a look at the top 5 COVID-19 infected states as of today:
Hmm, another veritable who's-who of Democrat strongholds.
So while I agree that Trump appointed the heads of the CDC and FDA, I see nothing indicating he micromanaged their responses to Dr. Chu's work. I do, however, see the governor of NY insisting that nursing homes take COVID-19 positive people, and shoe-horning a bunch of "presumed" deaths into his COVID count.
Doesn't seem like Trump is responsible for all that.
