Testing for antibodies is getting underway in earnest here in Stockholm. We seem to be past peak number of infected. That is calculated to have been April 15. By the first of May 1/3 of the population will have been infected. 99 of 100 infected did not have symptoms. ICU capacity was never maxed out and our spare field hospital as not been used yet. If all this is true we managed to flatten the curve just enough and will be back to normal after the summer. Still no lockdown.

Some uncertainty in all thees figures but different experts with different methods end up in the same ball park.

I've not seen a single person who relies on work in order to take care of their family shriek hysterically about staying indoors. The only people who I see desperately screaming about people needing to stay inside are the people who have no skin in the game, or people continuing to work.

Urbanite bugman: "Stay inside! Flatten the curve! Don't go back to work until there's a vaccine! Tread on me harder, Gubby-Senpai!"

Me: "What about the millions who got laid off or fired due to this pandemic? Would it be better for them to stay inside instead of working to provide for their families? Do you think the mortgage companies and renters will just eat the unpaid mortgages and rents forever?

Would it be better to go to work, get infected and take the bug home to your family?
We've already reached a death count over double the annual flu death number of 8k in the UK and are projected to get to 60k by the time the first wave is over.
...and that's without overwhelming the NHS.
Stay at home is working.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

To date: we have evidence suggesting that recovery may confer no immunity. There is nothing to suggest that a vaccine would even work since no human coronaviruses already in circulation are amenable to vaccination. We have no idea how many people have had this or what exactly is going on out there because our federal government has done everything possible to block testing outside of their narrow control. We have no proven treatments to ameliorate the symptoms and put a stop to the dying and permanent damage this disease causes. Amongst the "mild" cases, many people have permanent organ damage -- lungs, hearts, kidneys, livers and even some neurological damage in their brains.

I think in the grand scheme of "concerns" figuring out how banks and shitty landlords get paid ranks pretty damned low. We can figure that out. We need to get a handle on the pandemic before we go back to our golden calf worship.

Cool. Now how would you deal with people out of work and unable to pay for the essentials they need to stay home?

I'm not concerned about whether landlords get paid, rather the families who will be expected to pay rent or mortgages without jobs. You're acting like landlords are mad because they have empty, money making machines that the government turned off, but it's not as simple as that.

We can figure that out. I am very curious as to when people like you finally come to the acceptance that the world just got completely fucked by a deadly disease that has changed everything.

Was it like this in the Black Death too? Were there people who refused to accept it and demanded everything go back to normal?

You are worse than the progressive chick crying at the sky because Trump was elected. At least she was lashing out at against other people. You can't come to grips with a virus.

You people are like a legion of King Knuts ordering the pandemic to recede and outraged when people dare suggest life does not work that way.
