Interesting that we can't comprehend reality, while also saying with absolute confidence that there aren't gods.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 12:13 pmOur inability to comprehend is why mankind has to invent gods.heydaralon wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 11:59 amI was bored one night and couldn't sleep so I started a long chain of wikipedia links that led me to string theory and all this other weird stuff. Its beyond our comprehension. I have never read a convinving account of how we evolved to be conscious. Other animals are conscious too, but they don't have religion art etc afaik. I feel the same about atoms.
This table I'm sitting at is supposed to be made of atoms but I can't see them. I have no proof this table exists at all, or anything else.
I remember one time in college I was shrooming with some friends and this guy I was talking to just went off on this long tangent similar to mine about existence, reality and all that stuff and finally someone else in the group told him to shut up. He was making us all anxious and sad by bringing that stuff up at the moment lol. It was pretty damn funny looking back.
It's like Smitty's quote about never getting in the universe's panties that someone had as their sig.
Some things are better just left to geniuses in electric wheelchairs to think about while we watch reality TV programs and sportsball on the box.
Yeah.DBTrek wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 12:05 pmThat's why I'm perpetually amused by religion-mockers who are like "You believe some fairy tale god made everything? Damn you're a superstitious rube. Like . . . if you're gonna mock people for believing ridiculous shit, you need to come to the table with some less-ridiculous shit.

That's really only the Judeo-Christian God. Pagan gods required sacrifices for their sustenance.DBTrek wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 12:22 pmThe idea that "we need god because..." kinda overlooks the basic fundamental concept of God.
The existence of God, conceptually or in reality, relies 0% upon human need.

Eh, forget it. You heathens never entered a Church in your lives.
I never said there are no gods, just that they are an invention of mankind. Just like the big bang theory or relativity.Xenophon wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 12:19 pmInteresting that we can't comprehend reality, while also saying with absolute confidence that there aren't gods.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 12:13 pmOur inability to comprehend is why mankind has to invent gods.heydaralon wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 11:59 am

God actually provided them with the skins as a show of His mercy, that even as they were disobedient, He was willing to provide for them. They hid their nakedness immediately after eating the fruit because they now had shame as a result of their disobedient act.heydaralon wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 12:22 pmYeah.DBTrek wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 12:05 pmThat's why I'm perpetually amused by religion-mockers who are like "You believe some fairy tale god made everything? I haven't been to church in many many years, but the Bible has some pretty good takes on a lot of stuff.
Consider Adam and Eve. They ate the fruit, and then they were no longer in the Garden of Eden. They left mentally long before God physically kicked them out.
Its like a metaphor for technology. We gain knowledge, the same way Eve ate the apple. Once we know something, we cannot return to the previous state. The knowledge and the tech opens a door which changes everything. I'm pretty sure Adam and Even wore animal skins after they knew they were naked. So they killed animals and wore theirs skins to try and return to the state of innocence. But there is no going back. God knew it, and told them so. Any attempts to return to the state of ignorance just lead to bloodshed.
Idk I'm doing a very bad job explaining this and I'm sorry but a lot of times I see this stuff and think, "How could someone from 4000 years ago be this prescient and have such a good understanding of human nature millenia later?" Its crazy.
I like the Old Testament more than the New Testament in a lot of ways. The stories in it are incredible. I've always liked the OT more, even when I was a little kid.
