Shouldn't really be basing transport policies on once in a century pandemics though should we?

I don't suppose you've ever had to do the daily commute and spend several hours a week in stationary or slow-moving traffic though.
If you had you might like the idea of sitting on a train watching Youtube videos on your smartphone instead.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

I dunno. If you were one of the people trapped standing ass cheek to ass cheek on a crowded London train, your answer to that question might be "why, yes we fucking should".Montegriffo wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 12:08 pmShouldn't really be basing transport policies on once in a century pandemics though should we?Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 12:05 pmPublic transportation is a death sentence in the Covfefe Death. Well, since most of them were traveling to work in non-essential jobs such as construction one might be tempted to feel that it served them right.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 12:24 pmI dunno. If more people had heeded the advice then the actual essential workers could have ridden on near-empty trains or even driven to work and found places to park.
They might also feel differently if they really understood that London could well be underwater in 50 years if CO2 emissions are not brought under control. Long term thinking has never been a strength for politicians or industry though.

As I said, you've never had to suffer the daily commute though have you? If it was an hour a day each way, 5 days a week, 48 weeks a year, you might feel differently.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 12:31 pmI don't mind traffic, so long as I am driving,Montegriffo wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 12:24 pmI don't suppose you've ever had to do the daily commute and spend several hours a week in stationary or slow-moving traffic though.

It was Mrs Smitty who got me to leave the army first
Then she got me to leave Toronto
I just didn't stop in the suburbs, I went all the way

I've never had to suffer a daily commute through standstill traffic either but I can still imagine how awful it would be.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 12:42 pmMrs Smitty commutes, she doesn't mind it, she works in Waterloo not Toronto, so the commutes not badMontegriffo wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 12:40 pmAs I said, you've never had to suffer the daily commute though have you? Either right downtown in the 6ix itself, or all the way out in the country
So out in Renfrew or Wellington County, I am a Redneck, pick-up truck & hot rod
But down in the 6ix, I was Corso Italia
And actually on base in Petawawa, we either rode our mountain bikes or straight up ran everywhere
