War is the greatest reformer of all.
Women's rights, the NHS and the welfare state all came out of war.
The Black Death ended the feudal system, what will the Bat Death end?
To me these are the most interesting conversations.

I would say Globalism as we knew a the dawn of 2020.
Countries all over the planet have suddenly learned that medical supplies and food chains are strategic resources.

I also see a growth of local food production. Thomas Massie leading the way.

That's great in theory but in practice It's still going to be the bottom line that influences retailers and consumers.
Same with producers too, especially the small local farmers. This farm could never hope to recoup the investment in machinery required to switch from thatching straw to vegetables. We grow beans and oats more for rotation than local production. In fact, last year's bean crop all went to Eygpt because they paid the highest price due to their crop failures the previous season.
Thatcher and Reagan knew this decades ago when they proclaimed that ''there is no alternative''.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

It takes central planning to stockpile equipment.

Indeed. Monte so dumb.

Americans are stock piling guns and toilet paper as we speak, no federal government required. Even the governments who did the least worst job stocking up, did so because of public pressure, hence market forces.

Monte's pro-government intervention bias simply gets in the way of seeing the obvious reality in front of him, central planning doesn't work anywhere nearly as well as he thinks it does, and it's his knee-jerk solution when his imagination is so pitiful as that he can't come up with any better solutions.
How many Americans are stockpiling ventilators and intensive care units?
How many for-profit healthcare systems have huge, nonprofitable, stockpiles of equipment ''just in case we need it''.
South Korea seems to be the only nation that even came close to being prepared for the Coronapocalypse and they did it through central planning.

I could be wrong, but I've held this view for a while. I'm not predicting local farmers will dominate the market, but like Micro-breweries, they will take a slice of the market and give locals options they didn't have at the high water market of Globohomoism.

You do realize that South Korea and Germany have significant private health care funding, and your stupid NHS model is a failure right? No, you didn't know that, you just assumed that more government health care equals better health care, dumbass.

Private healthcare amounts to around 25% of spending in the UK.
Do some research before you open your mouth and remove all doubt...

Germany and South Korea have more heavily privatized system than the UK, that's a big reason they are handling this so much better. The UK's level of government interference holds it back, it does not empower it.

The UK is fucked because, like Trump, their PM sacrificed British lives for markets in a secretive -- and retarded as fuck -- herd immunity plan.

Boris wasn't even secretive. He espoused herd immunity theories publically until it was pointed out to him that it was only a theory and flatten the curve is a better one in terms of lives saved.
Boris was a lot quicker than Trump to come to that conclusion though and unlike Trump, he has been entirely consistent since he changed tack.

ICU hasn't reached full capacity here yet. The death number dropped for the first time yesterday, from several days around the 600 mark down to 407.
Likely a statistical anomaly though and they are still predicting 7-10 days until the peak.

Yeah, because kicking the can down the road and destroying the economy on top of it is a great plan. You do realize that South Korea didn't have draconian economic crackdowns and handled this better than anyone thus far, right? Lets ignore those who handled it the best like South Korea, and instead emulate those who handled it the worst like China and Italy instead. Great plan, Bob.
