am I wrong?
Yes.

My mother is not fun like that.

I don't think about my mom as a character and thinking about her stresses me out in general

Spacemerica is supposed to be fun & relaxing, my Ma does not put me in that headspace
I stand corrected then. But a Ho Chi Minh 2.0 type who is sufficiently different from your mother would work, would it not? Or do you already have such a character?

Forget the mother angle then, what about the Ho Chi Minh 2.0 angle? Or a Le Duan 2.0 angle? Some sort of Vietnamese angle, since you're so into the Vietnam War and all, and it fits with your cold war paradigm.

Forget the mother angle then,
Now you got me thinking about her

My mother & I basically have fun when we are stoned out of our gourds,

preferably in the woods of British Columbia

She's fun like that, stoner adventures

The rest of the time she's a source of stress

Thinking about her probably increases my chance of heart attack

This is why we live on opposite ends of the country, because I stress her out too

We love each other, but we don't get along

I haven't been working on the Space Commies much

Trebuchet 007, I liked that angle, and I know Monte is a big fan obviously. The reason I ask about the Space Commies, is the villain is great way to help define the protagonist, hence Spacemerica's enemies are important in bringing out the most American Spacemerica, as you know that the Americans tend to get aimless with out a well defined opposition to rally against and tend to turn on themselves more often without it, as a result.

Spacemericans are more like early American pioneers,

The war is on earth, space is simply the high ground

The arc of the story is that the Spacemericans look to the stars away from earth

They are being forced to defend the high ground for America, but that is being imposed from Washington

NASA is becoming a nation unto itself, they are building starships

Who is forcing them to defend the high ground and why they are forcing them to defend the high ground is a great way to help flesh out the Spacemericans, while fleshing out the villain at the same time, two birds with one stone, using defense to create offense and using offense to create defense, synergistically.

Yeah, I don't have a Spacemerican Darth Vader character
