I just take the lessons of the shows, what not to do, it's all cautionary tales

That's because they are Breaking Bad, yo. You knew he ended up being Saul Goodman, the transformation was built into the cake. What if you and Dorthy Gale broke bad? Might look something like that, cautionary tale indeed, but how does that prevent relating to the characters?

I'm guessing that if they tried to make a TV show out of your marriage, it wouldn't be as good as Better Call Saul. Not everything that's great in life makes for a good TV show, so try giving TV show characters in a tragedy a little slack for not winning the life lottery, at least at the end, because that's the whole point.

Of course they are despicable, but if they weren't despicable the show wouldn't be any good. Better Call Saul without it's despicable yet relatable characters is not a TV show worth watching, same goes with Breaking Bad.
