Roosevelt was an anti Imperialist. But he liked the rearmament. It was a jobs program.

Cases in point would be ; Cash & Carry, where ostensibly neutral America is selling arms to the British & French
After the fall of France in June of 1940, FDR provides the British "all support short of war"
The Destroyers for Bases agreement comes next in September
Then Lend - Lease kicks in by March of 41'
There's literally no time for America to assess whether Britain is undefeated or not, before the aid flows
Soon as France falls, America is backing the British to the hilt

He and Churchill also had a bromance going.
Then he dumped Churchill in favor of Dear Mister Stalin

Anyways, getting back to Communism v. Stalinism
It's not that nobody has ever "tried Communism", every Socialist regime is on the road to Utopia
Socialism is the journey, Communism is the destination.
Socialism is Bernie Sanders, Communism is Star Trek
Stalinism is when this journey is hijacked by a strongman who installs himself as de facto Emperor
The threat is not Communism itself, Communism is like a mythical Shangri-la, in the future somewhere
The threat is always Stalin, because there will always be a Stalin as soon as you centralize the power
This is why I like Soviet science fiction movies, because that's the only place you can see Communism
It's Russian Star Trek, where everybody is a Vulcan, again, the Bolsheviks were urbane academic intellectuals
It was an urban - rural divide, the Bolsheviks all lived in the cities and ruled over the Kulak peasants from there
This is all brought about by the Czar himself, in order to keep up with the other industrial powers
For generations the Romanovs had ruled over the peasants in the countryside, and the cities were small
In order to industrialize, they start moving the peasants into the cities and make them into the proletariat
There's a show on Netflix called The Road to Calvary, set in Russia just before the revolution
It does a good job of portraying the naive urbane fops who were prancing around in the cities
These are the proto-Bolsheviks, the college students, the children of the rich actually became the Communists
It's the Jacobin Club, Russian style, it's all imported from France, just like everything else in Russia
Communism predates Marx, the Original Commune is in Paris 1789
What doesn't exist in pre-Industrial France is the proletariat, the urban working classes don't exist in 1789
Marxism is the French Revolution for the Industrial Age.
Marxist-Leninism is the assertion that the masses can't do it themselves
There has to be a professional class of revolutionaries to lead it
The Bolsheviks are the Majoritarians of that class, the elite of the elite professional revolutionaries
Stalinism is the final phase of centralization, from rule of a mob to rule of the one.
They say America has no natural enemies, but Communism is an anathema to America. Diametrically opposed
America is the war for decentralization of power and associated property rights
Communism is the war for centralization of power and against property rights
Democratic Socialism is just a repackaging of Stalin's Socialism In One Country policy
Except you get the rubes to vote Stalin in rather than Stalin having to seize power by force
This is why I have respect for Communists but despise Democratic Socialists
If you have the courage of convictions for the World Socialist Revolution, good luck to you
If you're a naive fop who is trying to get people to vote for Stalinism, to the lampposts with you

Interesting breakdown. I still like the catchall term commie personally.
Interestingly, I suppose it is more effective to label those folks as Socialists though. Many folks try to separate socialism and Communism, so its actually good to associate those two together.
Kind of like calling Climate Change activists bolsheviks. America hates Bolsheviks. It has a negative connotation. What the atmosphere folks want is govt control of everything, so they really aren't different.
Many people today are called Nazis who aren't really nazis, but Climate Change Millerites are actually bolshies.

Commie is a useful shorthand, I course we know what you mean in context.heydaralon wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 12:00 pmSmitty-48 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 12:17 amAnyways, getting back to Communism v. Stalinism

But most people do not understand what Communism is, they don't understand that Communism is a mythical place that you only arrive at, after you have finally achieved the World Socialist Revolution
Socialists are those who are on the path to Communism, Communism is a pseudo religion, they are the pilgrims

Again tho, Stalinism is a hostile takeover, a false prophet
Socialism In One Country is not Communism, it is a mechanism for diverting the pilgrims off the path.
Socialism In One Country ensures that you will never get to the Shangri-La

Bear in mind, I'm not one who says the PRC is "capitalist"
They are still Communists
They are simply doing what the Soviets did, propped up by King Dollar, on a larger scale
None the less, it's all about "Harmony", which is just the Chinese version of Soviet Communist Shangri-La
The Soviets sold a lot of goods as well, particularly oil, but that didn't make them capitalists.

Re: What Book Are You Reading at the Moment?
The thing about Democratic Socialists in America is that they are neither democratic nor socialists
Democratic Socialism is a British paradigm, its the compromise to stave off the overthrow of the Crown
In America, the paradigm is religion, American Democratic Socialists are really just the Temperance Leagues
It's not Karl Marx, it's Carrie Nation
Liz Warren is the Temperance Lady
Christian Socialism is not democratic, it is imposed by Hatchetation
This is why the black folk don't go for it
Because in fact, the Temperance Leagues were in league with the Confederates
Niggaz for Biden know the score
