It becoming a widespread pandemic at some point doesn't mean it's going to kill more people than the flu every year, or ever reach the kill rate of the spanish flu. The flu is very clearly more transmissive, because it kills more people every day than coronavirus even infects, maybe one day it will be more transmissive than the flu if it mutates, but today is not that day.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 1:04 pmWell, you need to take that up with all the virologists and leaders of government institutions like the CDC, who say it's very likely this becomes widespread pandemic. With an R0 of over 6.0.. you are just talking out of your ass when you say it's not likely to match influenza in infectivity. Influenza has never been anywhere near this transmissive.StCapps wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 1:02 pmNot yet, but it's extremely unlikely. The virus hasn't even infected 400,000 yet, let alone killed 400,000, get a grip.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 1:00 pm
It's actually extremely likely. Are you high again?

I am hoping only one season so less than a year for most of it's affects and of course that is a hope not based off anything specific . Also there was no vaccine for that devastating pandemic . Im just also speculating we might be able to deal with this better than they dealt with that horrible pandemic .Ph64 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 1:04 pmThe 1918 pandemic lasted 3 years. It actually does unless there is a vaccine developed before that happens. There is no magical spell to negate the lethality of the virus. It's just a math problem and you never went to college. So, once again, you are wrong. I swear to fuck you are wrong about just about everything.StCapps wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 1:05 pmIt becoming a widespread pandemic at some point doesn't mean it's going to kill more people than the flu every year, or ever reach the kill rate of the spanish flu. Re: The Normal Flu Kills 400,000 People per Year
It simply will not infect enough people to get anywhere near 400,000 kills in a year, and even if it did, it would only then be at the level of the flu every year, and nowhere near the Spanish Flu. Nice try though Captain SIFCLF.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 1:10 pmIt actually does unless there is a vaccine developed before that happens. I'm glad I gave up on "techno-utopianism" long ago.
Sometimes the old "tried & true" methods work just as well if not better than the new "whiz bang" tech.

The argument from disbelief is not a winning or even rational argument. The numbers don't lie. If this gets out of the box, and the situation in the Middle East and in Europe indicate it already has, then we are looking at a lot of fatalities. We are likely to have to lock down same as China if gets here.
Refusing to believe it because the implications are so big, despite the numbers staring you in the face.. that's just not rational. People like that are the kinds of people whom Nature selects for extinction periodically.
The cost of preparing and it not reaching its potential: you have extra food to work off over the next year.
The cost of not preparing and it reaching its potential: Mother Nature says you're fucking done.
The risk analysis of several people here is fucking dumb. You are better off setting aside a bit of resources to provide you a few months. The cost if you don't need it: not much. The cost if you need it but didn't prepare because you wanted to prove how clever you are: your life.

There may be plenty of fatalities, spanish flu level fatalities, not so much.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 2:12 pmThe argument from disbelief is not a winning or even rational argument. Well, good luck. You are not at my level. You are always wrong. Still refuse to admit how wrong you were about Biden, which was adorable. But I am uninterested in wasting my time with you. I engage with you out of charity and that's run out. So good luck.StCapps wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 2:13 pmThere may be plenty of fatalities, spanish flu level fatalities, not so much.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 2:12 pmThe argument from disbelief is not a winning or even rational argument. I admitted I was wrong about Biden several times, being right about a dem primary election has nothing to do with being right about pandemics anyway. You put your opinion on a pedestal it doesnt deserve, your level is garbage.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 2:16 pmWell, good luck. You are not at my level. You are always wrong.
