Watch the cruise ship in Japan. That's where we can get an idea of what this thing is capable of. Very high infection rate, and one death so far. What happens there tells you what we can expect assuming no shortages in ICU beds. If we go past that, I would move the mortality rate somewhere closer to the complications rate (about 15%).
My guess is that this thing is going to cull the population of the sick and vulnerable most of all. Elderly. Smokers. Diabetics. etc. It will be terrible if it breaks out of China, but most of us are healthy and likely would just have a bad fever and cough for a few weeks. And, quite honestly, fuck smokers anyway. We will have to probably tax somebody else after they die, but whatever.
"Masks offer very little protection from the virus, and you really shouldn't be buying those up so they can be prioritized for health care workers who most need them.."
Lol. "Little protection"... Yeah, that's why health care workers need them, because they're useless.
Obviously staying away from crowds is a good idea. Stock up on longer-life foods... Doesn't have to be 25+year freeze dried "prepper food" but things that'll last months if not a year or two.
Trouble is as things break down you'll get shortages, the PTB want to avoid panic - panic will empty the shelves from those smart enough to be ahead of the curve stocking up, which will cause everyone else seeing empty shelves to panic... And that's where they'll show their true authoritarian colors and start going after "hoarders" and such. Be prepared early, and don't broadcast it to your neighborhood unless you want them on your doorstep, possibly with pitchforks.
"People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome."

Not to sound evil or anything.. but what happens to real estate if we lose like 10% of our population? Will there be a temporary surge in supply, driving down prices for a few months to a year?

I don't think we'd see too much mobs. That liberal shit doesn't work in a pandemic because everybody is afraid to be around one another. Also, you still have power, water, and probably even internet. As long as the government keeps rice and shit on the shelves, they won't be a problem.
I would worry more about them trying to spread it if they themselves get sick.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

I can see if say 2-4% of real estate is for sale that mostly it would be upper middle class to rich dudes buying up properties and the rest don't see any substantially lower priced land for the working class .

Apropos to stopping superfluous travel..
It might be pointless. The globalist governments are not going to stop the global economy for a month just to stop a pandemic. They'd kill a hundred million people before they do that.
Meanwhile, average decent human beings ought to consider the possibility that this globalist system is highly fragile and does not serve our common interests at all.
