Who is ''they''?
A carbon tax is probably the most effective way of reducing CO2 output.
Carbon markets are just a greenwash. Rich countries buying the allowance of poor countries so that emissions stay the same.
LMAO
Social engineering through financial punishment? While China and India contribute more than the 1st World put together? Why do you hate poor people?
It's not poor people racking up air miles and consuming for the sake of it. It's the rich and big industries that have the largest footprints.
The average African or Chinese peasant isn't replacing their mobile phone every time Apple brings out a slight improvement to camera quality or wearing clothes a couple of times before rushing out to buy the latest fashion. The old lady in the streets of Mumbai doesn't have 40 pairs of shoes or a gas-guzzling SUV to nip down to the shops in. She doesn't live in a house far bigger than she needs with airconditioning in every room.
The polluter pays, simple as that.
You think people aren't socially engineered to spend spend spend for the sake of some totally unsustainable goal of eternal growth?
Conned into believing that they are helping the planet by recycling their plastic bottles or cardboard packaging when what they should really be doing is cutting down on their consumerism and buying locally. Not purchasing cheap Chinese products that drive their emissions up so that you can scapegoat them to excuse yourselves.
