How strong are the Jets ATM?
I see that they have a very similar record so far this season.
23-16-4 compared to the Leafs at 24-15-5.
3 points behind with a game in hand.

Strong enough, they've lost three key defensemen, Byfuglien, Trouba and Myers
To trade ( Trouba ), free agency ( Myers) and retirement ( Byfuglien )
So they aren't as strong as they have been over the last few seasons.
They're kind of like the Leafs now, they are loaded up in the forward group, thin on the back end.
The forward group being Sheifele, Laine, Wheeler, Connnor and Ehlers.
They rely on their goalie, Hellebyck, much as the Leafs rely on Andersen.

Laine is the Jets Matthews
Wheeler is their Tavares
Connor is their Marner
Ehlers is their Nylander
The Jets then have Sheifele, which the Leafs don't have an answer for.
