Reprisals in the form of conventional military attacks, seem like they'd be destined to fail given vast American military and technological superiority. Soleimani was a general in a department of Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard that is best compared to the CIA, so a proportionate attack, in terms of importance of target and likelihood of succes, would be some US intelligence chief. The base attack could just be a distraction, then.

Well, the Iranians wanted to do lots of killings in retaliation, targets like Kerry would be the least one among them. (1) The president does not have the constitutional authority to commit an act of war against another nation state without congressional authorization. He just gave them an actual crime to impeach him, but congressmen are too cowardly to defend their war powers, and most are completely in the pocket of the MIC (e.g. look at the F-35 boondoggle). This attack was morally and legally wrong.


(2) Iran could well be the MIC's Little Bighorn. Western infantry mostly sucks and has not actually won a single war I can think of since WW2, and even that only came as a result of massive, brutal strategic bombing by allied air forces on the western front and Pacific theater. The only way to actually wage a war with Iran is all out air war, and yet Iran is littered with Russian air defense systems that can most likely target and shoot down all our steal aircraft except for perhaps the stealth bomber, but the cost to use those for sustained strategic bombing will bankrupt us. F-35 in particular I suspect will not fair well over Iran. Also the tanker problem is in full effect. All tankers are imminently vulnerable and all stealth lawn darts have shit range and cannot actually operate over Iran without them. I am not saying we'd lose badly, but get real. We could not even win Iraq and Afghanistan.

(3) Watch Tulsi. She called this shit months ago. She said Trump would try to provoke a war with Iran as the general election neared. She was right.

The war power act allows Trump to do exactly what he did.

The Act is not intended to encroach upon the recognized powers of the President, as Commander in Chief, to conduct hostilities authorized by the Congress, to respond to attacks or the imminent threat of attacks upon the United States, including its territories and possessions, to respond to attacks or the imminent threat of attacks against the Armed Forces of the United States, and under proper circumstances, to rescue endangered citizens of the United States located in foreign countries.

(4) Congress does not have the authority to pass a law on a straight majority vote to, in effect, circumvent the constitutional amendment process. If Congress just passed a law on a straight majority vote to repeal the second amendment neocons and chickenhawks likely would see the problem. But they are too myopic and dishonest to recognize it when congress violates the constitution to give them what they want. War Powers Act also does not even give him this authority. No immediate threat to our nation was circumvented.

(5) This general was not doing anything John Kerry was not doing in Ukraine, or John McCain was not doing in Syria when he armed what would become ISIS. If this act of war was justified, then Russia would be wholly justified in dropping bombs on John Kerry and John McCain when they armed the "good rebels" (aka terrorists) to kill Russian troops. This is insane and it has to stop.

I am sure this guy was a real piece of shit, but the administration should have taken the issue to Congress that night and laid out the evidence. Which brings me to..


(6) If you really believe what the IC and MIC tell you at this point, then you are hopeless. They lied about PissGate, RussiaGate, and illegal domestic spying programs. They fabricated evidence of Iraqi WMDs to launch an illegal war and occupation of Iraq that led to this entire situation in the first place.
