The other thing about Iran is that the pro western liberals are in the minority
They mostly live in Tehran, and they're not revolutionary, they're not going to overthrow the Mullahs
The bulk of the Iranian population is rural, and they are mostly with the regime in Tehran
Cold War is optimal, containment is in effect, it's not World War Three, they have no leverage at the strategic level
If they take the bait, they get bombed with impunity, so they won't do that unless they are completely desperate.
It's not North Vietnam. they can't just hunker down and take a pounding, they care too much about the money.
They're not communists, they are worried about their economy, this gives America massive leverage over them.
King Dollar rules the waves, just stay in the boat and strike from the sea as necessary
Good.
That regime is evil as fuck.
Its funny. I have read a few books on Iran, and the Hanoi Dan narrative that we overthrew Mossadegh in 1953 is absurdly simplistic.
1) Our coup failed. The second uprising was generated by legit anti Mossadegh sentiment from the clergy and bazaar. The merchants and religious folks hated Mossadegh becaue:
2) Mossadegh was a fucking commie stooge and dictator. The main thing he did as "democratically elected" prime minister was to establish emergency powers for himself which he immediately used to lock up his opponents and ally with the Tudeh (Iran communist party). The mullahs and merchants rightfully didn't like that.
Everyone in Iran hated Savak, but the Islamic Regime didn't get rid of Savak. They kept the same torturers, and changed its name to MOIS. True story. I'm sick of the US being the sole cause of Middle East violence. If we disappeared off the face of the Earth tomorrow along with Israel, the region would still be a bloody sectarian shithole. The Sunni Gulf states have been waging proxy wars with the Shia Cresecent for almost 50 years. They hate each other as much as they hate us. Fuck them.
