When someone thanks me for my service, I simply say that it was all for God, Queen, Country, Regiment, Corps, Commander-in-Chief, so there is no need to thank me, as it was my privilege to serve.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 10:28 amAnyway, do you really want to recite your units grand history to everyone you meet?

The poster with the name Dirty dick can keep his praise, honor, whatever the hell else far away from my "unit" I can tell you that.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 8:03 amIt's all about the unit. You want to wear military stuff, but you don’t want to be thanked for service... you see how this confuses the rest of us right?
Direct your praise to the unit not the man.
People wearing their unit kit are proud of the unit they served with.
If you want honor military service, learn about the units and honor those.

Just a few post ago in this very thread you said you did just that. This lying cowardly bitch doesn't even have the courage of his convictions.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 10:28 amI think you need to re-evaluate what a ‘good American’ is. Deep throating the government kill squad is not part of that definition.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 8:22 amI don't find you to be a good example of an American, most Americans are interested in knowing.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 8:15 am
You can’t expect the general public to do that.
nobody outside the military gives a single shit which group of soldiers you were in, or what they did. Not only that, but that information is very difficult if not impossible to find. Even more so, half of what we hear about what’s going on is bullshit.
The fact that we’re even pretending everything is cool and thanking soldiers is pretty outstanding, in those circumstances. All we know is a ton of people went overseas and killed brown people to secure oil.
As an expert, I can inform them, and they appreciate being in the know
They feel included, which is what they want.
People in the military appreciate that they know their shit, and then there is mutual respect.
I do my best not to treat military guys any differently, but if they want to be treated extra-special for it, I don’t play along. If I’m asked to donate ‘to betwans’, I gently remind the person that I already pay taxes.
Anyway, do you really want to recite your units grand history to everyone you meet?

Fair enough, I was simply articulating my point of view as to why I don't want praise for myself, but rather for my regiment and the fallen.clubgop wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 12:13 pmThe poster with the name Dirty dick can keep his praise, honor, whatever the hell else far away from my "unit" I can tell you that.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 8:03 amIt's all about the unit. It's like my father was a Beatnik and a Pacifist.
But he was always down for the troops, he loved the regiment, and the boys in my regiment loved him for it.
My father was like one of the boys, they all accepted him, they loved to party at his house.
He wore the regimental kit, and civvies would ask him if he served.
He would say no, my son is the soldier, not me.
He was proud. He was respected by the troops.
When he died, the Regimental Sergeant Major drove seven hours to be at his funeral, carried a letter from the CO.
Feels good man.

It's sad. My father would feel bad for him, but I'm a soldier, so I got no time for non hackers like him.clubgop wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 2:13 pmIndeed, but feeling feelings dirty dick man will never have that relationship with his father, so he jelly.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 2:04 pmIt's like my father was a Beatnik and a Pacifist.

His father feels sorry for him, too. That's part of the problem.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 2:14 pmIt's sad.
