Re: The Space War Thread
Imagine if you ran into a little piece of debris, tiny little space rock falling in space in front you.
You are going to hit that rock at almost the speed of light.
How much damage would that do to your starship?
Mass times the speed of light. That would be an explosion I'd say.

You know what the crazy part is, there really is nothing stopping you from going that fast. And you wouldn't even feel like you were moving that fast, on your ship.
You'd just see all the stars in front as blue and the stars behind as red, but otherwise you wouldn't notice.
It's just a question of what fuel could you use to get up over 270,000 klicks per second and then slow down when you arrive, and how would you avoid running into tiny rocks and whatnot on the way?

Going to have long corridors.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 12:59 amWhat about a water planet, no land at all, it's very hot and high pressure, but instead of living on the planet, the habitat is an orbital ring around it, so it's a city, but it's linear, the size is spread around the ring.
No part of the ring is that huge, but the totality of the ring is massive.
I like the idea of a massive bridge over the galaxy's largest waterfall.

For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

See the trend in spec-fi these days is that America fights another Civil War.
I'm going with America fought a Second War of Independence from the Globalists.
So it's America against the world, but it's not a shooting war on earth
Just as in the Cold War, you can only fight by proxy.
Those proxy wars move into space.
