Not sure that I'm ready to read TC's romantic fiction, a few more laughs in his story would have been enough.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Did you not want to read my novel about a young elf single mother's journey of self-exploration after she rescues a human barbarian lost in the forest?Montegriffo wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 12:50 pmNot sure that I'm ready to read TC's romantic fiction, a few more laughs in his story would have been enough.

If it's going to be miraculous, I prefer Biblical.
It's like I just watched Risen with Joe Fiennes as Tribune Clavius.
It was good, I like the way the did the crucifixion at Golgotha, it looked like Golgotha, convincing.
It was very realistic, like gritty, how the Romans actually did them.
In terms of Christ himself, it's respectful, he's not like a comic book character, it's not silly.

I can send you a Mega dump of WH40K books. I load them to my Kindle. So far the Imperial Guard genre is my favorite.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 10:59 amFootball and porno and books about war.StCapps wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 10:55 amAre there explosions? Because you don't know what the book is about, except by my quip about it, you are assuming it's "girly"... far from it, but you can assume all you want... and be wrong.
Sex and drugs and rock n' roll.
Weapons and violence and heroes kicking ass and taking names.
Strategy and tactics and military historical references
Cool kit and technology, bad ass formations and units of warfighters.
Men of honor, codes of honor, fights for honor.

Can't really get into that.TheReal_ND wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 1:11 pmI can send you a Mega dump of WH40K books. I load them to my Kindle. So far the Imperial Guard genre is my favorite.
Starship Troopers is the standard, but rather than reading other people's takes, I'll try to come up with my own.
I don't want to taint myself with other people's ideas about military sci fi because I like to work on my own.
I know the military, I have my own concepts as to how it would work in space.

Like ST is political, it's not about the suits, they are barely mentioned, the hook is the militarized society.
Space would be like that, because you have to be militarized to survive in an environment like that.
But on the other hand there are other models to explore beyond the one Heinlein designed.

It's also kind of dated, because on the trajectory we are on now, weapons will be highly autonomous.
Man machine teaming with AI.
The "Space Marine" would be more of a tactician directing autonomous weapons, like a fighter pilot.
Might have to close to CQC at the objective, but the robots go in first as the foot soldiers.

The role of the man in the loop would be more like a General than an NCO
Every Space Marine a General, his troops are all machines.

The IG faction is essentially ST but more kinds of xenos and warp entities. The WH40K universe is massive however. You have Inquisitors, Astartes, Ecclesiarchs, Feudal Lords, rogue traders, the Mechanicus, pyschers, etc. and those are just imperial factions never mind xenos of all kinds, rebels, demons orks and space elves.
One thing I like about WH40k is how much hate the pointy eared cunts get from the imperium and deservedly so.
To your point about AI it's called "abominable intelligence" in the 41st millenia. The AI nearly wiped out mankind in the dark ages so it's highly prohibited. They tend to lobotomize prisoners and such to run automated servetors or become human calculators.
