Very egalitarian compared to a British Army.

Everybody suffers together on the pilgrimage.

They're also not socially conservative, there were gay Legionnaires, nobody cared so long as they did their job.

It's full of eccentrics, their tolerance for eccentricity was very high for a military formation.

They really don't fucking care what you do on your own time, so long as you are ready to go when TSHTF
