He didn't underestimate the US. He didn't trust his commanders.

If he did Normandy would have looked entirely different.
He still would have lost. Germany beating the US is not actually a thing that would have happened, especially with the Soviets giving them all they could handle and then some.
It would have been much more costly, and the US may not have had such a strong toe hold.

Which would gave changed the outcome drastically.
Would have just resulted in more Soviet control of Europe, Hitler still underestimated America, which was the whole point you took issue with, but is totally true. Now you're backpeddling.

Herr Wolf underestimated everybody.

He said so himself.

You can hear him say it in his words and voice.

He was on a command train in Finland and the Finnish military intelligence had the train bugged.

Hitler laments at having underestimated the task, says der krieg ist verloren in effect.

The Cold War moves unto the High Seas.

That's the stuff thermonuclear wars are made of.

Blockade till somebody puts a torpedo under a keel.

Then to put a stop to that, a tactical nuclear depth charge.

Then a long range tactical nuclear cruise missile comes back the other way.

No civilian population centers at sea, Escalatory Ladder.

Lateral escalation to Insensate Spasm.

Herman Kahn knows.

Pro-government control of everything.

That is innately evil.

The only reason that Normday was a success the way it was, was rather simple. Hitler was asleep.

If his officers were given reign to do what was required, they could have brought the heavy artillery that survived the shelling to the top of the embankments and destroyed the ships as they were coming to shore.

Since Hitler was asleep, they were too afraid to do something without his authorization, and in turn the battle was lost, and in reality the war...

Has nothing to with the point, Hitler asleep for one night did not alter the course of the war

Normandy didn't win the war in Europe anyways.

The Soviets were going to roll over the Germans by then.

Normandy was simply the landing to prevents the Soviets from taking Western Europe.

No, I take the question at face value... I don't bring prejudice into it. By the same string that everyone calls Hitler Evil, so was Truman, Patton, Abraham Lincon, and George Washington.
