I never said it was a logical or a good idea... as for Iran, yeah it will rebuild, but to what would be the question.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 5:43 amShock & Awe is bullshit. Nobody is shocked nor awed, and the MOAB is not going to have any effect. The Conservative wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 3:04 amOh, if we get into a war with Iran, it won't be one you will soon forget.
I've been hearing rumors that Trump wants to show real shock and awe. He's willing to drop MOABs at the beginning to make a statement.
I don't think Trump has any interest in war with Iran, but even if he did, bombing Iran achieves fuck all strategically.
It's like World War One, you bombard them, when that stops, they come up out of their bunkers and they are still there.
They just rebuild after and carry on.
MOAB SchMOAB, it's not a miraculous weapon, it's just an FAE bomb.
Even if you dropped tac nukes on them, they would carry on.
Even if you used startegic nukes, Iran would still be there, they would still rebuild and carry on.

Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
The sort of countries which would submit to military coercion are not the sort of countries which defy America in the first place.
If a country is Rogue State, that means they are prepared to hunker down and take the pounding.
Hence, bombing them is pointless, since the mission is coercion. having to actually bomb them is a failure;
The threat didn't coerce them, now you're stuck there with no exit strategy.
I think Trump gets this tho, military action is not Trump's game.
Trump is business, he prefers economic coercion, sticks and carrots dished out by King Dollar.

You'd have to actually land troops there like we did in Korea. You'd have to go house to house in a lot of those places.
Iran is not an easy country to fuck with and it's really insane for politicians to talk like this.
I really hate chickenhawks.

Exactly, and it's 77 million people in Iran, it's three times the size of the Iraq.
Fully mobilized, with every last man they have now, the Army is still not big enough to invade Iran.

The only real threat they pose to American interests is Freedom of Navigation.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 6:08 amLook at the terrain too. Mountain and urban warfare galore.
If they overreach in the Gulf, sink their navy and fight their boghammers or whatever.
But against Iran just hunkering down and taking a pounding, there are no military solutions.

Yeah, I could see potentially having to capture the territory right up along the straight and to destroy their ability to launch anti-ship missiles into the gulf. That wouldn't be easy either, but it would be achievable.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 6:14 amThe only real threat they pose to American interests is Freedom of Navigation.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 6:08 amLook at the terrain too. All countries which can be coerced militarily are already compliant.
In the cases of the ones which are not, containment is the only realistic option.
Containment is a maritime operation, enforce freedom of navigation, but otherwise bypass and contain.
It's the same with China, sink their navy if necessary, but otherwise just sail around them.
