Re: Why are you conservative, why are you liberal, why are you independent?
I am conservative in the way I support the monarchy. It was the monarchy that created my country, that created the state we exist in, that expanded (but also lost) territory of the "Danish mark" (borderlands) over the centuries. I consider them the link to the state's history, and the living embodiment of the history of the state that we, as Danes, now own and manage. The monarch is the state, we are the nation, the government the government of the nation, and the monarch the state working for us, representing us.
I am also conservative in the sense that I literally want to conserve my country's history, and where it makes sense, our traditions. Some traditions are best left behind, but our way of life is also threatened by values and ways of looking at ourselves that don't belong here, that destroy the good that those who came before us built.
I am liberal in the sense that I support a free press, and the rights of citizens to freely express their feelings in speech, writing and art without sanction from the state. I am, however, not so liberal that I believe in liberalism being some sort of universal value.
I'm social democratic in the sense that I support that both the state and society seeks to protect the poor, the sick and give them the best chance at enjoying a life free from hunger, from poverty, misery and lack of opportunity. And preferebly, if their health allows it, from unemployment. Work, having something to get up to in the morning, having colleagues, a job where you earn - at least some - of your own money from your own work, has immense value for the pride, the sense of self-worth, the self-esteem of any individual. I believe in a society where both society and the state makes room for that sort of flexibility and where the long-term unemployed, the drunks, the drug addicts, the sick, are given help to help themselves to a better life. Where the citizen is solidaric with his fellow citizen and growing up poor won't prevent you from access to medical help or forms of education.
And I'm a cultural relativist. I believe in the value of my own culture, that if you come here you adapt to our way of life and while you can stick to your foreign religion, you adopt our approach to religion (it's private) in our country. Each culture is a master of their own house, each country has their own approach. What's better for us, is not neccesarily better for them because of cultural, religious, historical and/or political reasons.
There are still some beliefs about right and wrong, but to me those are only about truth. I am perfectly fine with China oppressing its people, but not ok with them lying and/or not being allowed to report on select facts. If you're way of life is best for you and the rest of your society accepts that, then you don't need to lie about it to those you govern.

See what honesty looks like? No attempt to mislead or fence straddle, no moderation or eschewing labels. The foreigners get it, undercover hack bitch shit is an American left thing.BjornP wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2019 11:56 pmI am conservative in the way I support the monarchy. I am not a progressive because I do not believe in forced charity or labor.
Nor do I believe the State is superior to the people, nor the needs of the many superior to the liberties of the few.

Huh. And yet you are a proponent of forced sterilization of poor people just so you can save some money in taxes. Guess the needs of many taxpayers is more important to the liberties of some people, eh, Margaret Sanger?
You’re less pro-liberty than TC is Conservative...

Cherry picking as usual - I said in exchange for the massive social services they receive. Save "some money" in taxes - 60% of my income goes to the fucking government. It's never enough for progressives - I'm not even going to waste more time explaining my position - not playing the collectivist game any more. You want more - you better be prepared to take it by force.BjornP wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2019 6:31 amHuh. Ah yes, that correction makes you look alot less like a statist authoritarian. You don't have to explain how you love big government so much that you think you paying taxes to help your fellow citizen, means you are entitled to his liberty.
Collectivists think it right to sacrifice individual liberties in the name of the collective and you think that paying taxes that go to homeless people means homeless people should have no liberty and be marched to the People's Glorious Abortion Clinic...
You're right... you don't have to explain yourself any further.
