It's also about increasing pitch counts, getting deeper into counts. Walks are up as well.California wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 9:13 amThe more K than hit equation is a result of sabermetrics or whatever they're calling it nowadays. Stats geeks figured out that going for deep hits has a better probability of producing runs than your standard, old school NL small ball. This caused the batters to adjust their swings to have more of an uppercut than straight at the ball. This causes them to miss more pitches and therefore ultimately result in KsPartyOf5 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 7:37 amSome random stats I found interesting:
- League-wide BA is up to .250 from .243 last year. That is good news, but we still have more Ks than hits.
- Attendance is down about 2% so far this year. This is after a drop of 4% last year.
- Rookie Pete Alonzo of the already broke Daryl Strawberry's Mets rookie HR record and it's still June.

Disco Demolition at 40: 2 views of an explosive promotion that caught fire at Comiskey Park in 1979

The Disco Demolition at Comiskey story was the hot topic of discussion among our Dixie Youth baseball league members for a couple of days. Our half-black, half-white league hated the damn Bee Gees and the torment that Casey Kasem put us through while waiting for the decent rock and soul tunes.
Us old bastards remember how campy and ubiquitous "Death to Disco" was in all of pop culture in '79.

Last night the Angels celebrated recently deceased pitcher Tyler Skaggs. They all wore his jerseys last night, and responded by throwing a combined no-no and scoring 13 runs, 7 of which were in the first inning.
Trout hit an HR and a double just in the first inning alone

Yes, you SOB's. Give up a 6-1 lead in the 9th down 8-6 only to rally for a walk off win against the best team in baseball. Steal this game.

That was the first time baseball hit the news here since the Cubs won the world series.
Every time it was shown the reporter ended his piece with '' not a good look''.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Ok, walk me through the disco backlash. I get that it was intense, but I don’t know why - I was busy being born that year.Fife wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2019 6:04 am40 years ago:
