As I stated in the OP, Trump is bringing attention to our failed cities. This is a good thing. We need to recognize that the status quo doesn't work in these cities. Particularly for people of color.

Baltimore is a great example. Same stuff we've talked about in a lot of cities.

Pffft.

Urbanization brings many benefits and many challenges. We've known this for as long as we've been building cities. Trump ain't drawing attention to shit. He is a master at stating the obvious as if it were an original idea, though.

It is a good trick, really. Weave something more or less axiomatic (there is violent crime and poverty in cities/third-world countries are shittier than 1st world countries, et cetera) into an attack, and nobody can really say you were "wrong." "Incomplete," maybe, but that isn't near as sexy as flat out "wrong."

So you don't think giving Baltimore $16 Billion in one year with nothing to show for it is something US citizens should be concerned about ?

You don't think a Police Chief saying
"Baltimore is a dangerous city and the utmost care and caution should be taken as you go about your daily tasks." is note worthy.

What I hear you saying is, 'meh, cities are shitholes, everyone knows it'

Never going to happen - Blacks who have figured this out are small in numbers and left the inner cities two generations ago. How do you propose you reach inner city black when they can't even read? Send GOP foot soldiers in? At best you would get GOP hacks...

Eventually, you'll accept that nothing can be done except to sit back and watch the ongoing shit show with a bag of popcorn and some bud heavys.

Hold on to your butts...

On second thought - there is something we can all do - vote for candidates who will speed up the train...I'm voting straight D in 2020.

In 2017, Baltimore had a GDP of 192 billion, so 16 billion of reinvestment doesn't really bother me. "Nothing to show for it" over the short term isn't really a good metric. Nobody with sense expects their investments to vest immediately.

As for the police chief's comments? Sounds like he didn't appreciate the mayor downplaying the challenges faced by Baltimore police in the name of scoring a politically expedient point. I totally understand. And he is not wrong. You need to be savvy if you live in a city.

Cities aren't shitholes. But there are shitty things attendant with city living. No honest person would say otherwise. But tarring the entire urban experience as irredeemably shitty is just as dishonest and incomplete as presenting city life as an Utopian idyll.

No, no, no.
I've been told for years here that Cities are the center of all the brain power of our nation, that rural folks are rubes and failures just jealous of my betters in these urban paradises. I've also been told how much these cities produce. Now I find out they are taking in Ten of Billions of tax dollars a year with no apparent production. I'm now being told this is the way it is, cities must have slums, rotting trash, rats, human shit on the streets and heroin needles littered throughout the city.

WTF guys.

Vote so surban women and hipsters can't go to the supermarket anymore without being accosted by DNC foot soldiers scavenging the country side.

Vote so that no one can get a student loans because the price of attending a 4 year school exceeds $500,000.

Vote so the cartel installs itself and starts kidnapping white women for ransom.

Vote so that U8 hits 45%.

Vote so that the PRC can flood our markets with rubber dog shit.

Vote so that it becomes illegal to accidentally use the wrong pronoun - punishable by $100k fines or 1-2 years in jail.

Doing this will bring change sooner.

Those are good numbers. What does Baltimore produce ?

Cities aren't complete shitholes. In fact, if you a white liberal they are great. However if you are a person of color, your experience is more likely living in a shithole.

Funny, because I live near inner city blacks who are great neighbors, and fully literate as well. (Most of my neighbors are Hispanic and don't speak much English, but walk over to offer advice and lend me tools when they see me struggling with something.) I also live kitty-corner to a black church that sometimes has some absolutely destitute city blacks in attendance, and my interactions with them mostly involve them complimenting my wife and I on the work we've done on our yard.

Forgive me for thinking you are talking directly out of your ass.
