If you look at the living wage, this is basically accurate. It started to really open with the financial woes of the late 70's and was spreading by 1980. Frankly that economic crunch is what probably got Reagan elected. People forget a home mortgage was like15%. Nearly impossible to buy a home or car. Reagan's changes fixed reduced the interest rates so people could buy homes and cars, but there was no coming back from the easy credit drug.
