He may have needed a teleprompter, but when he had one, he killed it. Obama knew how to sell himself much better than any politician he ever faced knew how to sell themselves, to pretend he had no skill at campaigning because you don't like his policies and his performance as POTUS, is to miss the forest for the trees.
Huh? So he read and delivered well. Off the cuff and in the moment, not so much.

I would love to see a deathmatch of Trump v Obama. That would be fun.

The rest of your post about "pretend" yada yada is N/A. Lionize through a narrow focus of history is indeed a perilous undertaking.

I am not lionizing Obama, I am pointing out that he was a better salesman than his political opposition. If he had to face Donald Trump, things might have been different, but he faced Hillary Clinton, John McCain and Mitt Romney, so it was a cakewalk.

The Democrats have no fresh face who can sell in 2020, if they did, Biden would be doomed, but they don't, so he's not doomed. Democrats don't have an Obama or Bill Clinton in 2020
Bill Clinton was not exactly a fresh face in '92 he was on the radar the periphery but he was there. A popular Democrat southern Governor and former Rhodes scholar people knew him. He wasnt totally unknown. That motherfucker could sell ice to an eskimo, a broken ketchup packet to a lady in a white dress and tell you about the blind dry cleaner that would get the stain out. You are comparing a small time conman to the master. Nonsense.

I agree that Bill Clinton was the superior conman, my point is that even Obama's level of conman dwarfs the current 2020 Dem field, and thus Biden has a real chance of winning, because he's a better conman than his laughable opposition. On the periphery is a fresh face in politics, some people knowing who is and not being a complete unknown doesn't change that.

If you can't see the parallel between Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, because Obama is a poor man's Bill Clinton, you aren't trying hard enough. Both were fresher faces than their opposition and better conman than their opposition, and the Democrats don't have anyone like that to take on Biden in 2020. The fresh faces they have aren't skilled enough conmen to beat Biden, and the conmen they have aren't better than Biden at selling bullshit, the field is weak as fuck, and Biden is likely to exploit that, even with the gaffes.

A successful democrat candidate is typically not an unknown at all, but relatively young. Age 45-50 is the ideal range.

Successful republican candidates tend to be older.

Not completely unknown, but not well known, while having solid used car salesman skills. 45-50 is the ideal age range, but if you can sell and your opposition can't, then age really isn't that important.

You are talking out of your ass. Every democrat president since then end of WW2 has been young. Truman was the last old fart democrat president. None of them were "not well known" except for Obama. You just think this because you first became aware of politics during the Obama admin and you are ignorant of past American political history.

It is not some kind of immutable rule, but a successful democrat usually needs to be young because people tend to vote for a democrat president when they desire experimental changes to society.

The democratic party is the party if ideas. Old farts talking about going back to the 70s way of doing things are not very marketable as such.

That's a coincidence, the reason younger democrats have been winning, is because they have been able to sell better than their opponents, they didn't win just because they were near the ideal age range. Being the ideal age range helps, but it is not as important as you make it out to be. Clinton wasn't that well known in 1992, no one gives a shit who the Governor of Arkansas is, he beat out a lot of Democrats with a lot more name recognition than he had, he was the fresh face of that primary.

I know more about American political history than you do, as I reference it quite often when making my predictions, while you have the memory of a goldfish and can't seem to remember any election that wasn't 2016. I reference election years against incumbents when making my predictions while you try to pretend like 2020 will be just like a year when there was no incumbent POTUS and can't think back further than four years ago. If you have an in depth knowledge of American political history, you never show it, where as I talk about it all the time.

Anyone who disagrees with you is CNN, what a convenient way to write off any dissenting opinion. Captain Strawman to the rescue, saving yourself from any thinking whatsoever.
