Ummm, ok... work smart, not hard. If the parts are there for you already, go for it. But if you want to do it professionally, have fun, my only warning, is that if you have anyone that can make a barrel properly as in a single piece of steel, then you got a lot more than a machinist as your neighbor. It takes a special piece of hardware to make a barrel in a single piece.

I worked for a few years in a manufacturing company, we dealt with plastics and metals, from .15mm to up to 4' pipe, both plastics and metals. We dealt with SS, Cast Iron, and standard steels as well as copper, and lead, we also dealt with LDPE, HDPE, and about a dozen other plastics. We manufactured things for NASA, SeaDoo, as well as Intel, and many other entities.

I was in charge of the inventory, have fun telling me what's heavy and what's not when I lugged, lifted, and moved tonnes of material every day.
