The drivers insurance market is a different game, though. It's true insurance, whereas "health insurance" is a misnomer, not actually being insurance at all.

Furthermore and even so, if you could somehow theoretically collectivize consumers in the driver's license market, then they'd for sure get better rates and deals.
So health insurance isn't insurance?

You would for sure get better rates and deals in your theoretical scenario? Wouldn't a collective of consumers minimize the competition of the providers? "they can get too good of a deal and drive the companies out of business. Then we are all screwed."

Not really. Insurance is a one-time payout for some catastrophic incident, like a shipwreck or a house fire. It's risk management for an event that *might* happen.

What we call health insurance is just payment management for health services. Illness necessarily will happen at some point.

Yup. Homeowners insurance doesn't pay to fix the light switch that goes bad, or replace the water heater that stops working, or put a new roof on when your roof is 40 years old and just worn out. It does pay if a tree limb goes through your roof, or an earthquake or fire damages your home. Those aren't common occurrences typically (and if they do become common for your area then rates will rise in your area).

Car insurance doesn't pay for your oil changes, new brakes, new tires, engine service, etc. It pays out for accidents, and rates rise if you are considered more of a risk, but overall it's coverage for rare events.

Yet we expect health "insurance" to pay for everything from a check-up to the cart you need to get around after 40 years of eating Twinkies, chronic conditions, etc.

Pfft, that is how it works when you don't have good health insurance. You realize that they are having it now where you pay $15K out of pocket before insurance kicks in?

I’ve been saying for some time that health “insurance” is simply a bandaid over an insane medical monopoly system. It keeps the appearance of reasonable pricing, though the reality is anything but.
SJWs are a natural consequence of corporatism.

The insane part is that we all expect to be saved by medical technology even when it is not practical. What makes that a hard pill to swallow when we get denied coverage is the capricious nature of how health care is distributed. If expensive, experimental treatments were distributed based on wealth alone, it would not be as difficult.

As it is, a foreigner who came to this country only to become a felon receives exponentially better health care than an American who served his country and became disabled. The average person in the middle class is essentially playing roulette with whatever insurer the employer chose. Two fathers with daughters with the exact same illness, in a the same careers, do not necessarily get the same health care for their kids. It's luck of the draw, depending upon where you work, and it's not always obvious that an insurer is going to fuck you either, so it's not like you can shop around for a job with the best insurance.

You basically have the very worst aspects of socialism and this market-driven capitalism all crammed into one giant bag of shit.

house votes to repeal the "Cadillac tax" that was meant to help pay for Obamacare.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/h ... cbcd0e6305

I noticed a number of things:
- Even the liberals now refer to the ACA as Obamacare. When people did that back in 2010 liberals scolded others for using that term.
- It got bipartisan support, passing the house 419-6
- The tax never even took effect, even though it was sold to us as necessary to pay for Obamcare.
- The damage of it has already been done. My employer used this tax as their reason for changing our health insurance benefits to all high deductible plans so they would not be considered a Cadillac plan and could avoid the added tax.
- Since it never went in affect, and Democrats are now voting to repeal it, this was either never needed to pay for Obamcare or the money is going to come from somewhere else. They are either morons or liars. Probably a lot of both.
- Another excuse for this was that it was needed to lower health care costs. Typical politicians using increased taxes as an excuse for reducing costs on something. Again, morons or liars.
- Democrats actually admitting that a tax on a company will result in the end consumer paying for it.

There's just so much wrong in this.
