May stepped down as leader of the Conservative party a couple of days ago sparking off the contest to find a new leader and therefore a new Prime Minister.
May is staying on as PM until a new leader has been chosen. It's expected to take about 6 weeks with the winner taking over at the end of July.
The big two are Boris and Micheal Gove but after the cocaine use admission of Gove yesterday he is thought to be out of the running.
Jeremy Hunt the Foreign Secretary has the next largest number of endorsements from fellow Tory MPs.
The Home Secretary Sajid Javid is probably the furthest to the right of the 11 MPs who have so far declared an interest in running.
Rory Stewart is the most liberal.
2 women 1 black and one non-practicing Muslim amongst the contenders (for those of you obsessed with identity politics).

The principles of the procedure for selecting the leader of the Conservative Party are laid down the Conservative Party Constitution, while the detailed rules are agreed by the 1922 Committee executive in consultation with the Conservative Party Board.[66] Nominations for the leadership are invited by the Chairman of the 1922 Committee, acting as returning officer. When nominations close, a list of valid nominations is published. If there is only one valid nomination, that person is elected. If two valid nominations are received, both names go forward to the party membership.

If more than two nominations are received, a ballot is held within the Parliamentary party. An exhaustive ballot system is used to select two candidates to go forward to the party membership. The 1922 Committee executive considered changing the rules so that four candidates go to the ballot of the party membership.[67] They also recommended increasing the number of MP nominations required to eight.[68] On 4 June the rule change was accepted by the party board, with candidates requiring the support of eight MPs to be nominated, then the support of at least 5% of the Parliamentary Conservative Party in the first ballot, and 10% in the second ballot in order to proceed further. In 2019 this equated to the support of sixteen MPs in the first ballot and thirty-two in the second.[69][68]

Nominations opened on 7 June and will close on 10 June. The first ballot will be held on 13 June, with subsequent ballots held on 18, 19 and 20 June. The first membership hustings is scheduled for 22 June and the ballot of the membership will take place over the following month, with the winner announced in the week beginning 22 July.[70]

He's very good on the environment, quite liberal compared to a lot of the contenders and funny as fuck.
On the other hand, he's a known liar, a serial adulterer and a hard line Brexiteer (although he has backed off from No Deal and is now saying ''clean break'' instead.

He's a typical Eton elite with a family tradition of politicians and journalists. 100% establishment with high popularity amongst voters but less popular with his fellow Tory MPs.
