I actually don't care about vets getting a leg up on working. The stuff that gets me is the VA disability fraudsters. 'Wah, I had to go to the aid station once to get a bandage on my knee from PT, now my knees are shot. Pay me 50% disability for life. There's a lot of that shit that happens.

Way too much. In fact, vets are probably the second largest group of socialists beyond college students - many of them being used to being coddled by government during their service, and then finding government jobs afterward. FAA was saturated with self-entitled, ex military jerks who believed they were owed the world.

A is for Activist...DBTrek wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2019 9:32 amMost popular history book in the nation, laid down the groundwork for revisionist SJWs and the corrupt academia we’re living through today. But y’all don’t have a problem with it ... until you’re once again face to face with the people who believe every word of it....His history has two sharp dimensions. The heroes are Arawaks, Cherokees, and Creeks, the Grimké sisters, Nat Turner, Harriet Tubman, John Brown, figures who had previously been peripheral in U.S. history. Frederick Douglass, W.E.B. Du Bois, the Wobblies, Emma Goldman, Eugene Debs, Sacco and Vanzetti, Rosa Parks, the Rosenbergs, Betty Friedan, and Attica prisoners are at the center of the narrative. America’s great 19th-century cities are “death traps of typhus, tuberculosis, hunger, and fire.” The people who built America were cotton pickers, factory girls, and breaker boys.
The villains are puritans and planters, settlers and pioneers, merchants and shippers, bankers and industrialists, all of them promoting a nation infected by greed, racism, and nativism. Zinn thus reverses accepted narratives of American progress and growth, deflating revered national figures and ignoring past accomplishments.
For Zinn and his admirers, previous accounts of American history are smokescreens and calculated lies. He uncovers the cover-up, which is part of his volume’s appeal and thrill. This outlook grandly invalidates a mountain of distinguished historical scholarship that preceded his book. As Harvard historian Jill Lepore once observed, Zinn’s morality play has special appeal for the Holden Caulfields fighting the eternal contest against phonies and fat cats instead of examining tangled social contradictions. Under one cover, A People’s History offers an uncomplicated, emotional, and persuasive version of how the U.S. came to be what it is now...

That shit gets me mad.
But yes... free markets, freedom of expression...
We don't have to like the ideas... but there is an imperative to contest them...
Fight freedom with freedom and sink those shitty ideas in the marketplace of ideas...
Well done DB... you have exposed another corrupt tome...
Harry Potter is ok tho.

He was a war criminal for bombing civilians from the air
The problem with Zinn is there is no objectivity, he came out of the war damaged and declared war on America, it's history and traditions and painted everything the US did as evil. I can't respect a historian driving through American history with blinders on.

The guy served honorably in World War Two in combat, did his duty, now you're fabricating that he was a traitor somehow.
I don't respect that, but whatever, I already think you're an idiot, so no loss there.

Re: Nationalism, Socialism, Marxism
The irony here is I’m constantly advocating for free speech and free markets, while Zinn’s SJW disciples are agitating for silencing the right and switching to socialism. Zinn’s disciples have taken over education and media and are taking his victim’s version of revisionist history to the limit by attacking everything traditionally American on every front. Yet pointing that out earns me a lecture on book sales and speech rights. Like I’m the threat, by pointing out the obvious while advocating no particular action.
Truly some Twilight Zone level shit going on around here.

For fucks sake, look above I just said "I respect anyone that served honorably while they were in", I was referencing his history work, don't pervert my words for your uses.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2019 9:59 am"Declared war on America" is absurd nonsense, but whatever.C-Mag wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2019 9:55 amHe was a war criminal for bombing civilians from the air

I can see why a guy like you would have tunnel vision about people who serve in the military. You have to, you're entire schtick is built around it.
.........…. and GTFO of here with that 'you're an idiot' derp you pull while you burn up page after page, thread after thread with 'It's all Nixonian, Vietnam, wash rinse repeat, derpa derp.

In terms of the military, that's my only area of expertise, so I contribute what knowledge I have.
In terms of veterans, I don't necessarily genuflect to them, but guys who served honorably in World War Two are indeed special to me, mea culpa.
