One of Hanoi Dan's "war criminals". He sure doesn't sound like a war criminal to me Carlin.

Yeah, that's why that set me off.

It was so dangerous, flying into German airspace was like confronting a suicide mission every time.

Every time they went up, they had to confront death, because the attrition was so bad for bomber pilots.

And then Hanoi Dan takes a cheap shot at him, and yet all I remember is the old man.

Who couldn't even remember it at all. Couldn't even remember how to fly a plane, never mind the war.

Couldn't even remember that he had flown a plane, in the Second World War.

I mean, he was impressed, but it was like it was somebody else who had done it.

He was like me, he was impressed with this guy who had done that, but he couldn't remember that it was him.

I even showed him pictures, pictures of him in the war, he said it did look like him, but he had no memory of it.

No wonder that podcast set you off, Hanoi Dan showed his true colors with that shit.

Him refusing to cover the Civil War is also laughable, as is him not finding the material that interesting, I mean, what's not to love about the Civil War?

I still like Dan, I didn't mean to go to war over that, I wasn't even that mad, it was just personal for me.

Those guys who flew the bombers, they are regular Joes to me. They are good guys, just like you and me.

My grandfather, Jimmy Stewart, Curtis LeMay, they weren't criminals, not even by the statutes of the day.

I even got the other point of view, because my wife's grandmother was in Germany at the time being bombed.

It's true, she did hate the bomber pilots.

But still, she was kind of a Nazi bitch, whereas my grandfather was a real nice guy.

It would have been interesting if my grandfather had ever met my grandmother in law.

That would make a solid sitcom episode.

They probably would have gotten along, just on 1940's nostalgia.

Mind you, I still would have been running security for my grandfather, because my grandmother in law was actually a Nazi, she was dangerous, I wouldn't put it beyond her to pull a knife all of a sudden.

She did hold a grudge about the bombing, I'd be keeping a close eye on her.

Seriously wouldn't surprise me if my grandmother in law lunged with a knife to kill.

My grandfather couldn't even remember the war, my grandmother in law never forgot.

She hated the Allied troops, first they bombed her into the stone age, then they showed up to rape her.
