On my list of things to study:

How the Catholic Center Party failed.

At every stage of the game, they could have to done something and kept getting either too fractured, or too demoralized.

Do you see parallels in modern American politics ?
I don't know.

Certainly the fractured nature leaves it open to folks with much smaller support gaining authority. And as you see in Yemen, they can make things happen that very few people actually support.

Hard to see, other than the potential chaos.

The Catholic Center could have stopped Hitler, wanted to, but failed. But the group failed in many ways for twenty years, not just HItler.

We are largely in the ineffective era before the next, as they were.

Joe Biden: You can’t trust an amateur like Trump to blindly grope his way through a successful presidency!

We are in a period of upheaval and change. I feel lucky being able to have a front row seat. These are the periods that people write histories about. It's uneasy at times, but amazing to witness. I would have never guessed I would see a failed coup of an American president.

Its true.

On of the factors where StA is wrong but right is on the moderates.

Hitler couldn't have actually taken on the Catholic Center. It would have been civil war to openly declare war on 1/3 of the country like that, but the problem seems to be that they become moderate by losing conviction. If the CC had voted against the Enabling Act, it wouldn't have passed. They theoretically voted for it because they were surrounded by SS, who would have arrest or killed them... but at that stage it wouldn't have worked. They were too moderate, as in demoralized and lacking conviction, rather than having a strong position that happens to fall in the middle.

Ludwig Kaas (23 May 1881 – 15 April 1952) was a German Roman Catholic priest and politician of the Centre Party during the Weimar Republic.
"On the one hand we must preserve our soul, but on the other hand a rejection of the Enabling Act would result in unpleasant consequences for fraction and party. What is left is only to guard us against the worst. Were a two-thirds majority not obtained, the government's plans would be carried through by other means."

The Catholics in Germany were a strong middle ground group with a millenia of history. We don't have that in the US. Looking at periods like this in US history, non-establishment radicals win in upheval periods. Lincoln Republicans, FDR new dealers were cut from the same clothe as MAGA Trumpers. Make no mistake, Progressives, Lefties, Liberals are establishment folks. If you called them Conservatives, you would be technically correct. Not that we need to get into a long debate about name tags, it's more important to understand they are the establishment that current Americans are fed up with.

Mayor Pete, made a 21 year old do a south bend and sexually assaulted him. The Gay MeToo.

My name is Hunter Kelly. I am 21 years old. This is by far the hardest thing I have ever had to do. For the past three nights, I have not slept even a single hour. I have vomited eight times.
I was sexually assaulted by Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
The Democratic National Committee, sometimes referred to as the DNC, is again working its magic in its quest to destroy Crazy Bernie Sanders....

....for the more traditional, but not very bright, Sleepy Joe Biden. Here we go again Bernie, but this time please show a little more anger and indignation when you get screwed!

This centrist Catholic party sounds like a perfect example of what I have been saying. They betrayed their traditional and reactionary brothers to help the fucking Nazis for the sake of political considerations. That worked out great.
