Re: MHF - Hockey Thread
Leafs Nation is not taking this choke well.
They have gone from one extreme to the other.
The Loafs are getting pilloried.
Everybody's on the #firebabcock bandwagon naow.

Good, Fire Babcock, I hope they run him out of town, just like I said they would when they signed him. Ain't no coach worth $50 million in the NHL, about time they stopped pretending he was the Bill Belichick of hockey.

Definitely deserves to get fired, I'm just not holding my breath with 4 years $25 million left on the contract.

Yeah, I think they'll puss out and give him one more shot, because of his name and the contract, Leafs be gluttons for punishment like that.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 10:46 pmDefinitely deserves to get fired, I'm just not holding my breath with 4 years $25 million left on the contract.

They will throw money down the drain if they have to, but $25 million is a lot, even for MLSE.StCapps wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 11:00 pmYeah, I think they'll puss out and give him one more shot, because of his name and the contract, Leafs be gluttons for punishment like that.

Thing is keeping him doesn't stop them from throwing money down the drain, so might as well bite the bullet and fire him anyway. Sooner is better than later.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 11:02 pmThey will throw money down the drain if they have to, but $25 million is a lot, even for MLSE.

I don't think coaches make that much of a difference.StCapps wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 11:03 pmThing is keeping him doesn't stop them from throwing money down the drain, so might as well bite the bullet and fire him anyway. Sooner is better than later.
Babcock is just annoying because he's so overrated.
If people are going to stop overrating him and start pillorying him instead, that's good enough for me.

He played Matthew less than 20 minutes in game 7, despite the fact that he was the Leafs star choking the least throughout this series, he refuses to give his best players ice time, so he can play third and fourth liners that he likes more often, even when the stakes are at their highest and his team is losing. He needs to go.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 11:10 pmI don't think coaches make that much of a difference.

I think he will go, but not next year, unless the team spiraled down right out of the gate, but they're not likely to do that. If they do this again next year, another choke, then I could see him going.StCapps wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 11:16 pmHe played Matthew less than 20 minutes in game 7, despite the fact that he was the Leafs star choking the least throughout this series, he refuses to give his best players ice time, so he can play third and fourth liners that he likes more often, he needs to go.
It's Tannenbaum who has to fire him basically, and I think Babcock would argue that he never got the player upgrades he needed, and Tannenbaum would probably agree.
I don't agree, obviously it's the Mike Babcock Country Club, but the lack of a decisive trade or two to upgrade the lineup probably gives him an out.
