Strategically tho, Makar and Barrie top four RHD; Johnson is superfluous.StCapps wrote: Thu Apr 18, 2019 4:28 pmTrue, but for now, during this playoff run, he'll do just fine.Smitty-48 wrote: Thu Apr 18, 2019 4:27 pmJohnson needs to be replaced, Makar, Barrie, Zadorov is fine, Johnson is too much of a cap hit for a guy who has Joffrey Lupul syndrome.StCapps wrote: Thu Apr 18, 2019 4:25 pm Avs right side of the blueline is pretty dope, Johnson, Barrie and Makar, take that Tampa and Toronto.

It's like Muzzin on the Loafs.
Muzzin is okay, but we already have LHD coming out of our ears.

He's been playing pretty damn good though, can't take him out of the top 4 when's he playing like that, better off just doubling up on righties on one of the pairings. Trade him eventually, but since that isn't a possibility at the moment, got to play him on the top pairing.Smitty-48 wrote: Thu Apr 18, 2019 4:30 pmStrategically tho, Makar and Barrie top four RHD; Johnson is superfluous.

On paper he should be a superstar.StCapps wrote: Thu Apr 18, 2019 4:37 pmHe's been playing pretty damn good though, can't take him out of the top 4 when's he playing like that, better off just doubling up on righties on one of the pairings. 1st overall pick.
RHD
6'4" 225lbs
But still, he's never lived up to the hype, if they can dump that 4 years remaining at 6 million per going forward?

I'm totally on the trade Johnson bandwagon, but the trade deadline has passed, and can't do it right now. In the meantime, got to play him on the top pairing, even though he never lived up to the hype.Smitty-48 wrote: Thu Apr 18, 2019 4:58 pmOn paper he should be a superstar.StCapps wrote: Thu Apr 18, 2019 4:37 pmHe's been playing pretty damn good though, can't take him out of the top 4 when's he playing like that, better off just doubling up on righties on one of the pairings. The problem with Johnson is that he's soft.
He's 6'4" 225lbs, but he plays small.
If you're paying six million for a guy that size, he needs to be crushing people like Chara.
Big guy, plays small, six million cap hit is not worth it if he is a defensemen.

Indeed, but since we have to pay him, and can't trade him right now, he's playing great in the playoffs, moving him out of the top four would make no sense, and taking him off the top pairing wouldn't be optimal.Smitty-48 wrote: Thu Apr 18, 2019 5:05 pm The problem with Johnson is that he's soft.

That's what I give Muzzin credit for, he hasn't been great, but at least he's crushed a few people into the boards.StCapps wrote: Thu Apr 18, 2019 5:08 pmIndeed, but since we have to pay him, and can't trade him right now, he's playing great in the playoffs, moving him out of the top four would make no sense, and taking him off the top pairing wouldn't be optimal.Smitty-48 wrote: Thu Apr 18, 2019 5:05 pm The problem with Johnson is that he's soft.

If only he was an RHD it would be a good fit.

Ovechkin's shot really is something else, he easily has the best slap shot one timer hockey has ever seen.

Ovechkin would have put up Gretzky like goal numbers against the goalies of yore.StCapps wrote: Thu Apr 18, 2019 5:21 pm Ovechkin's shot really is something else, he easily has the best slap shot one timer hockey has ever seen.
He's honestly one of the best pure goal scorers of all time.
He's just had to do it in the the butterfly goaltender lightweight goalie equipment era.
If he was facing the clown show goalies of the 80's, he would have put up insane numbers. 1000+ goals.
