And the Catholic Church is very unlikely to sign off on the destruction of centuries-old oak trees to rebuild that roof when they can do it safer with steel or some other material.

Seems like the rebuilding is well funded.
People don’t have to use oak if they don’t want, but let’s stop pretending the shit is a rare earth metal. It grows out of the ground, with water and sunlight.

Acting like trees are irreplaceable is what lead to a plastic trash-heap larger than France floating around the Pacific.

Macron has promised to rebuild it in 5 years.
The only way that is even possible is to use steel and concrete.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

It takes time though.

Macron has little to do with it outside of building regs. If the archdiocese needs money, the Vatican will probably pay for what is left over. That thing is too important.

And the current Pope is not going to allow three hundred year old oaks to be cut down to replace the roof. LOL

The Vatican left it to crumble.
It was in a poor state before the fire.
Of course, they will promise to act now because the eyes of the world are upon them but previous to the fire Notre Dame was struggling to find the funds to preserve it.

Don’t need to buy time.

Planting acorns requires productive people. Clearly that eliminates you and most of Europe from being part of the solution.

If only cynical sarcasm and nihilism could rebuild great architectural wonders. Ah well. Easier to blather on the internet and act helpless.
We'll just do what we've always done when there's a hard work job for low wages needs doing, employ some Polish guys.
Yeah, the Brits are too busy gluing themselves to trains and the driveshafts of trucks to do any hard work.

If you need time but can't buy it you have to wait.
Or use steel.
