The Avs could sure use him on the back end right now, that I can tell you. A definite upgrade on Zadorov, Nemeth and Cole, right out the gate, plus he's a lot more physical than Barrie or Girard.
I don't even think that's the Avs problem. Mike Smith was lights out. If he stays lights out; problemo.

Now, Mike Smith hasn't been lights out for a long time. But that was some vintage Mike Smith last game.

Mike Smith from seven years ago.

True, Mike Smith on his A+ game is a problem, but adding Makar helps both offensively and defensively, and that's certainly not a bad thing. Didn't like the defensive performance in game 1 though, I thought Grubauer bailed them out, and they were meh at best.

You think Makar is just going to step into the NHL playoffs like it ain't no thang?

It'll be a learning process sure, but I 100% believe he's an upgrade on half the starting defense, right out the gate. I think he'll play in the top 4, and I think he'll see some powerplay time. Not sure if he'll be getting any PK time, he might have to earn some trust before he gets that duty.

I'd be surprised if he plays at all.

They say he's "joining the team"

Who said an NHL regular is being pulled out of the line up so a rookie can go in?

Makar is not a bottom pairing defensemen, who is coming out so he can go in?

Zadorov and Cole will probably be the bottom pairing. Nemeth will probably come out. Ain't no reason Zadarov or Cole need to be in the top 4 instead of Makar, let alone Nemeth.

Barrie probably gonna get that top pairing time with Johnson. Girard and Makar probably the second pairing.

McAvoy made his NHL debut in the playoffs, why not Makar?

Other than he's never played a shift in the NHL.

I think he's going to get rolled in his own zone, Bednar would be idiotic to ice a rookie in his top four.

Makar is not that good, the Avs would be jumping the gun to throw him into the top four, never having played a shift.

Because he's not that good. He's not McAvoy. McAvoy is special.

He put up way better numbers in the NCAA than McAvoy dude, he's more ready than McAvoy was, if anything. He's gotten a lot better defensively. He ain't that small either. You're sleeping on Makar.
