Now Nixon, he doesn't get nearly enough credit, most underrated President in American History. If America ever gets over Vietnam, maybe he'll finally get the credit he deserves.

Eisenhower singlehandedly created America's Vietnam War.
It was Eisenhower who made the deal with the Soviets and Chinese to fuck the Viet Minh.
It was Eisenhower who split the country in two.
It was Eisenhower who prevented the elections to make sure Diem was installed as dictator.
It was Eisenhower who put the advisors in to prop Diem up.
By the time Kennedy comes along, America has already been fighting Eisenhower's war in Vietnam for a decade.

Well Truman deserves a little credit, but yeah like 90% Eisenhower, at least. By the time Kennedy took over, that shit had long since been baked into the cake.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2019 10:13 pmEisenhower singlehandedly created America's Vietnam War.

Did Kennedy put too much stock in Eisenhower?
Sure.
But it's Eisenhower.
Kennedy was a Lieutenant in the war.
Eisenhower was Supreme Allied Commander.
Do I fault Kennedy for thinking Eisenhower would know what he was talking about?
Not really, no. I probably would have listened to Eisenhower too.

Eisenhower is pretty solid example of how appealing to authority can backfire. JFK knows.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2019 10:20 pmDid Kennedy put too much stock in Eisenhower?

Eisenhower helped win WW2, helped neutralize commie threats in Central America and the Middle East, and you are getting hung up on Vietnam. Who can even remember that far back in some nasty little jungle country? Not the American people, that's for sure. They were too busy stacking change and being satisfied as fuck with the high living standard Ike gave them and the peace of mind that came from him keeping the red tide at bay. boo hoo some shitty mongrel (half mongol/half indian is what Vietnamese people are real talk) country got split up and colonized. I certainly don't care, much less live there, nor did any American voters. Ike got us out of Korea as well. He understood the big picture. Vietnam can be drawn, quartered, and cooked with sesame seed oil and vegetables. It doesn't matter, because that country doesn't matter. America does, and Ike made sure of that.

Re: Prosecute Tom Hanks ("I know what love is!")
I'm about to go to sleep, and we can continue this argument tomorrow if you like. The original coup went south, and the final successful power change against Mossadegh was actually fomented in a big part by the locals who were weirded the fuck out that Commies who were against all of Iran's traditions were taking over. I'm not going to fault Ike for doing the right thing and supporting the coup against the Reds, but even if I did, the thing is not nearly as cut and dry as Dan tried to make it sound. Iran is a traditional country, and even more so in the 50's. A huge number of them hated communists and for a good reason. The commies in that region just had good PR/grass roots organization compared to others at the time. Also, don't call Ike a faggot. Good president, may have made some mistakes (not being hard enough on Vietnam etc) but a solid leader. Would elect again 5/5.StCapps wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2019 10:07 pmDude the only reason Iran blew up in Carter's face is Eisenhower being a Domino Theory Faggot.
