It's all about logistics in the end.

The French didn't have the logistics to hold on to their empire, even after America handed it back to them.

The French resistance in WWII was rubbish. Typical case of post-fact romanticizing. They accomplished next to nothing. A country of that size with that military tradition should be able to do better. If they really wanted to, that is.

The French resistance early in the war concentrated largely on intelligence. Lots of very brave people risked their lives to get information to London. Many of these acts will never be known about.
Nazi acts of reprisal made direct attacks unpopular but strategic targets were still attacked under the supervision of SOE.
Once Overlord began the resistance was very effective. Closing down lines of communication by sabotaging bridges, railway junctions telephone exchanges etc.
I just saw evidence of the reprisals for these actions at Oradour sur Glane.
The resistance also played a big part in the liberation of French towns and cities as the allies advanced. Fighting as infantry units trained and equipped by the allies and sabotaging communications, providing intelligence etc.

So long as we apply for the correct license in triplicate before the previous full moon and watch with BBC subtitles reminding us that the Nazis were the bad guys it's legal.

No. The hotel would pay the license fee.
So long as you passed the multiple choice competency exam and handed your essay in on time you would get your license and have full control of the remote.
