Was Tolkien a practicing Catholic? If so, that makes a little bit of sense, but I think it's a stretch of the imagination to conclude that creating fantasy gods for a story is worshiping another god.
It's not a stretch to him. He was a devout true believer and mostly responsible for CS Lewis renewed faith.
That's a little ... extreme. Did he believe his works were non-fiction? There was a real Middle Earth and one ring to rule them all? If not, why would creating a fantasy god be considered something he believed/worshiped?

I'm genuinely confused; not doubting his sincerity.

I thought Tolkien was obsessed with language and that he wrote the books as a way to build a world around the new languages he created. From what I've read, he actually did create fucking languages for those books, we just only saw a small part of them.

There has been some fan speculation that Tom Bombadil was a god-like figure in the book. He didn't make it into the movies. He was mysterious and definitely came across as something ... different.

He was into using his art for parable lesson of sorts. Its not a logical system just his ideas.

Ancient languages were his career. Oxford don specialising in Norse and old English.
LotR is full of the myths and legends of old Europe.

I tried reading those LOTR books. A lot of singing. I really hated that shit and gave up. I think the hobbit had some of that silly shit in there too.

Yeah, I always skimmed over the tedious songs and poems, in case there were plot points in them, and moved on.

I could even see Sansa left standing as the only Queen left after the fallout. Maybe with Tyrion as her hand. I think clearly the dragons, three eyed raven, whatever so called children of the forest, whatever giants left, and magic etc. will all be wiped out by the end of the show.

I'm going to hate-watch this partial birth abortion of a show to its wretched conclusion, but don't think for a second I'll enjoy any of it. My vote for Iron Throne winner is Ramsey Zombie. What if the ice king brought him back? That would be an ending to write home about. Best way to piss off the insufferable fans. Have a shitty character we are designed to loathe win. Perfection.
