The North Vietnamese were an accident of history.

A lethal cocktail of hyper nationalism, hyper collectivism and hyper idealism.

Everything the Americans believed in 1965 is true.

They just ran into the this rare bird who had the perfect terrain advantage.

That rare bird is gone tho, America could take Vietnam down now without breaking a sweat.

It's not the North Vietnamese anymore, the Vietnamese have become bourgeois.
Was there ever a point that America could have won? Were the Vietnamese troops ever in a "Paths of Glory" situation where they were disobeying orders and losing faith in their leaders?
I think America was winning, the problem was the academics and liberal media.

The North Vietnamese relied on Hanoi Dan to win the war for them.

1965 to 1967 was nothing, America could have kept fighting, it was McGovernism what brought Westy down.
If we had fought Vietnam in the 40's or 30's do you think Public opinion would have been such that the American people would have been cool with the war?

Americans were more than cool with the war, in 1965 Americans were prepared to fight World War Three.

The Greatest Generation was not more into it than the Air Cav.

America has never produced a more agressive formation than the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile)

It was the greatest American fighting force ever put into the field.

The college professors and liberal media was who brought it down.

The North Vietnamese were hanging on by their fingernails the whole time.

They came so close to cracking, America missed the window by only months.

That is fucking depressing as hell. Even if the war was a fool's errand, I still wish we had won. It would have been a nice pick me up for America during the 70's. A depressing decade and that would have been like doing a fat line of coke for the collective national psyche...

Arc Light was working. It was totally devastating.

B-52's rolling in relentlessly. North Vietnamese morale was collapsing.

Tet was a total catastrophe, America literally snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

how do you know the Vietnamese were that close to cracking? What is the best book on the Vietnam war? I mean like a non biographical non fiction account.

What is the best Vietnam memoir?

I like Bao Ninh. Bao Ninh is ultimate NVA.

What does he say now? Fuckin' catastrophe, wasn't worth it.

But that is what Ho Chi Minh said.

Ho Chi Minh said that war with the Americans was not worth it.

The Viet Minh were nationalists who adhered to Woodrow Wilson's self determination doctrine.

They never wanted a war with America.

It was the Chinese who took over, through their proxy Le Duan.

There was a Chinese backed coup in Hanoi.

Thing is, Le Duan literally impaled the North Vietnamese Army on the Arc Light.

There wasn't just one Tet Offensive, Le Duan launched a series of offensives.

Each one an even more devastating defeat than the last.

America was winning, just missed the window by a few months.

I read this NVA account, can't even remember where I was reading it.

But the NVA were stacked up in the highlands, echeloned.

They would send whole regiments forward.

The B-52's would roll in and annihilate them.

They had mutinies in the ranks, but they didn't have a liberal media in Hanoi to out them for it.

Bear in mind, if we had allowed the college professors and liberal media to run amok in World War Two?

We would have lost that war too.

The loss in Vietnam was entirely due to failing to control the liberal media and their academic enablers.

FDR himself would have had them all rounded up and thrown in jail.
