Funny story. On one occasion, he needed to have some morphine,the nurse came in and slammed him with two syringes full of morphine one right after the other. Dad grabbed the head rail on his trip to the moon. I thought he was a goner right there, eyes straight to the back of his head. I even called out to him. After he got out there in space he looked at me and said "That was rude. She is supposed to go slower." "Yeah Dad, she was. How was the blastoff though?" Reminded me of the Pulp Fiction scene.

My Da wanted all the drugs, he figured this was his big chance, he was dying, so no more need to stay clean, he wanted opium, heroin, whatever he could get his hands on, fuck it, might as well try it now.

But I am the Gen X Latchkey Kid. Broken home at ten years old, stability is valuable to me.

My Da was a reefer smoking Beatnik constrained by the 1950's social conservatism, so he was dissident to that.

Stability is where it is at! I just shed Dad's ultra seriousness unfortunately my little sister couldn't shake it. She suffers to this day from it.

Avoiding this weird taking one's self too seriously is why I married a Polynesian. She has just right amount of dedication/devotion and ability to laugh at the absurdity of it all.

Just make sure you don't get busted, just make sure your kids are taken care of, but once that is done, party time.
