Some dudes in London, Ontario just got charged for calling women who were passing by, whores and prostitutes. I shit you not.

Actually, I'm fine with that, shouting obscenities at women passing by? That is a public nuisance, fair cop.
I'm not. Shouting obscenities at people passing by should be protected free speech, not seeing any good reason why it shouldn't be.

Yeah, but overly restrictive bylaws can suck my left nut too. It's a stupid bylaw, and it's going to limit speech on top of it, fuck that noise.

Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice. Moderation in pursuit of justice is no virtue. That bylaw is nowhere near Brandenburg v. Ohio, fuck it and the horse it rode in on.

Indictable is the bright line for me. You cause a nuisance and you get a ticket for it; cry me a river.

Call someone's mother a whore?

Prosecution by the state; negatory.

Heart ripped out by Dalton; affirmative.

Tickets for shouting obscenities are fucking dumb Smitty. So what if it's not the worst thing in the world, it's still not a good idea.

If they shout it too loudly, that would be the only thing worth fining them for, if they are just upset people with their insults, that does not rise to a level that warrants limiting free speech.

I back the landed gentry on this one.

Self interest.

I don't want people thrown in jail for anything but the most serious crimes.

People who cause a nuisance and get a ticket for it; don't care. Not even a bit.

Self interest isn't a very compelling argument to limit free speech, maybe that shit sells to others in the landed gentry, but that smells like horseshit to me. Shouting obscenities is not something people should get tickets for, whether you care if they get tickets or not, isn't relevant to whether that is a wise bylaw, or a stupid bylaw.

I am in favour of municipal power.

I am a land owner, and I will be a tyrant with bylaws.

And I make no apologies for it.

If they come after them with indictable offence, federal power, then I would oppose.

City of London? Have at them.
