And for the Marines and the British and the Italians, they are replacing Harrier with F-35.

So now you have a jet that takes off and lands like a harrier.

But in combat is like an F/A-18 on steroids. With F-117 stealth as needed.

This gives them aircraft carrier like capable jets, from STOVL mini carriers.

So all those Marine Expeditionary Strike Groups can be used as Carrier Strike Groups in a pinch.

And the British carrier strike groups pack American like power for the first time really.

By the way, you know what the second highest A2A scoring 4th generation fighter is after the F-15?

Sea Harrier.

21-0 in the Falklands.

Is Canada going to cave and buy the F-35 at some point? If so, how many?

Well if they are going to keep flying the Hornets for as long they say, 2030's, then there's not going to be much else in production, in Canada's price range at least

So either they will buy F-35, or they will buy nothing and join New Zealand in the no fighters anymore zone.

As for how many?

If they buy F-35, minimum two squadrons, maximum three, so 50 to 75 airframes would be my assumption.

Is the Canadian military engaged in any conflicts atm? Like, do they have troops in the Sahel doing covert shit, or in Syria in some limited capacity? You don't hear about their military much on the news, but I know they have been involved in a lot of Conflicts the US was.

There's only two minimally resourced missions at the moment.

One is in Mali flying DUSTOFF for the EU and UN.

The other is in Iraq, they just switched it up from training the Kurds, to training the Shia. Moving from Erbil to Baghdad.

That's about it, AFAIK.

Were you serving in the military during the Balkan wars of the 90s?

Yes, that was the second half of my career.

We were totally focused on World War Three in the 1980's

In the 1990's we went overboard for the UN, because the government didn't really have any other idea what to do with us.

I know the Canadian general Romeo Dallaire went to Rwanda during the slaughter via the UN in UNAMIR (I think?). Did the Canadian military go? Did you end up going?

I'd rather not discuss it.

The missions were a disaster.

My military was destroyed in the process.

It was traumatizing. It was depressing.

I choose not to dwell on it.

Ok, my bad.

Did you get stationed anywhere else far away besides Africa and the Balkans?
