Idea: somebody make a YT channel that is dedicated to fishing with the goal of becoming economically viable. That is, if you come up with a price per protein (for instance, use Wallyworld's chicken breast prices at about 1.99 per lbs), then how do you go about fishing such that your costs in a year match the costs of just going to Wallyworld and buying the giant pack of chicken breasts for about 12.00?

Factor in transportation costs, but maybe not time.

All the best fishing is a hassle, ie, boats

The most easily accessible fishing for me is to go hang out with the Mexicans and Vietnamese on the various piers
pier fishing is not really my thing.

Or at least pier city fishing.

You can catch all the smelt you need tho, for bait or stew....

You just need to have nothing but time.

Urban fishing just seems odd to me.

How can you not factor in time? But if you know what you're doing the hardware cost is negligible, you can get pretty outfitted at Walmart for under $100. For me, using market cost for top shelf, super fresh, wild caught fish as my benchmark it's not hard to even justify my kayak related costs. You can't fairly compare super fresh fish to factory chicken unless you're in survival mode.

California & Jedi: Get a kayak. You're next to an amazing fishery on that coast pretty much no matter where you are. There's tons of bottom fish. Dunno where you are Cali, but here's a dude fishing yellowtail off malibu. I've seen vids of dudes pulling in thresher sharks!

That striper pic of mine was taken in NY Harbor.

Nice.

Don't get me wrong, fishing in Eliot Bay out in front of Seattle is fine.
For me though, fishing off a pier in the city.. far too many people.

Maybe I want to take my shirt off, maybe on want to listen to some CCR, maybe I want to drink a beer, maybe I want to take a nap.... too much rif raf.

I wouldn't open with fishing from a kayak in the ocean though. I would start in a lake.

But yeah, you can totally get yourself up and running for $100 at walmart.

Totally agree, I'm not even too crazy about kayak fishing with a crowd. I love to be out there all alone, even in sight of Manhattan. And yes, learn to kayak in fresh. There's lots of lakes to target largemouth.

Sometimes I'm not all alone:

Have any of you all seen or tried out a one-man round boat? Pretty handy for a quick run out close to home.

Looks perfect, if you have no pride or class.
