Understand how chummy Churchill was with the Kaiser, understand that the Kaiser was British, understand that the Kaiser was not actually the war monger, understand that Churchill was lying in wait to stab the Kaiser in the back.

Look at it from the German point of view, Kaiser Bill was Hanover, why was Hanover making war upon him for Russia?

It was Churchill. He just wanted a war because he loved war.

Rudyard Kipling fuckin warmonger had to get himself into the mix somehow.

Now, Kaiser Bill certainly had his flaws, they tortured him as a child, he was a big baby, but he was not Hitler, not even close. It was only after Churchill destroyed Germany that Hitler came to be.

There was absolutely no moral imperative for Hanover to make war on Hanover in 1914, and the liberals said it, but Churchill wasn't having that, Rudyard Churchill had to have his war.

Suez wasn't all about saving the Empire.
It was also about winning the war. Hitler needed to be denied access to the oil of the ME and Britain needed the raw materials coming from the Empire to continue fighting.
Losing Suez could mean losing the war.
The Royal Navy controlled the med' thanks to Gibraltar it was the obvious choice for the 2nd front.

The long march up Italy took the Italians out of the war and gave Stalin his long asked for second front. It split the Nazis 3 ways after Overlord and had advanced all the way to Austria by the time Stalin reached Berlin.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Except there was no reason other than Suez, for Britain to go to war with Hitler.

Pretty simple; Hitler is going through Poland to get to Stalin, why does Britain care?

America had already supplanted Britain as the Hegemon in 1916, and they didn't care, why did Britain?

Suez, India, China, and all the slaves therein.

A child can understand it.

Seriously, folks, other than Hitler being astride the route to India and Indochina, tell me what interest Britain and France would have in declaring war on Germany because Germany invaded Poland to go after the Bolsheviks?

British colonial imperialism, French colonial imperialism, and fuckin' Churchill lying in wait to have another war.

It's not that complex, he caused the first war, and it was an utter catastrophe which destroyed his reputation, so he wanted a do over.

There is this effect of national power where peers just tend to go to war over nothing substantial. We saw this effect all the way back in classical Greece when Sparta and Athens basically killed each other, paving the way for the eventual subjugation by Macedonian mongrels.

Why really do the American and Russian federal governments fuck with each other all the time? Our nations do not really have that many interests in conflict.

It's about the nukes dude. You are never going to have your mythical US-Russia alliance while they are pointing nuclear arsenals at each other, The Balance of Terror prevents it.

Depends if the threat from the mongrel nations becomes greater than the threat of nuclear war between US and Russia.

Indeed, but that is nowhere close to happening, nowhere near enough mongrels with nowhere near enough nukes, so don't hold your breath.
