Even then.. the Army solved the air defense problem by just flying longbows down near the ground and behind hills. The Kiowa scout would pop up over the hill, target the battery, and the longbows would kill it.

Literally, the only advantage to stealth is flying in defended air space where you do not enjoy air dominance. That's what it is for. Strategic bombing and air superiority missions only. Maybe add reconnaissance and spying, but that's done by other things now.
For all other roles it's useless. You already presumably destroyed their air power. You already destroyed all their missile batteries. Stealth doesn't do any good there. For all those other roles what matters is range, firepower, load, and performance. Stealth hinders all of that.

VLO provides first look first shoot in all respects, tactical interdiction to airfield defense.
Float like a butterfly sting like a bee is always of utility.
Even once there is no A2AD threat, can still be used for stealth ISR.

Moreover, F-35 also provides US partners with stealth negating need for direct US intervention, joint deterrence with no American boots on the ground.

I wish you guys would read the article I linked, it's really mind blowing. His premise is either:
1- the USAF has a dark drone fighter program from the Skunkworks that resembles secrecy around the F117 and RQ-170, which is a problem because its so small scale.
2- they've seriously dropped the ball and are putting manned programs over next gen tech simply for tradition.
The description of how drones, particularly in numbers, can fill most of the missions of the F35 is very compelling. As is the notion that since they're not needed for training pilots they can have far shorter operational lives, thus being much cheaper. Much of the tech is already in use in the F35, but the drones would solve most of it's problems of range and time over target. And the Navy is already developing stealthy drone tankers for the F35. Plus both the Russians and Chinese have advanced armed drone programs.
You guys are like admirals in 1941 arguing whose battleship is better when carriers are about to make them obsolete.

We are only accustomed to dealing with like twenty online personas at a time so when we only have about ten people some people have to be strawmanned in order to advance our same relative go nowhere nonsense positions. -TheReal_ND
