'Fight For 51' measure highlights regional differences in Illinois
State representatives from different ends of Illinois disagree on whether Chicago politicians are pushing Windy City policies onto the rest of the state.

State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, scoffed at the idea of House Resolution 101, which would urge Congress to make Chicago its own state.

“No, that’s a bunch of B.S.,” Moylan said. “Chicago provides a lot of tax revenues for other parts of the state.”
Des Plaines is basically part of the Chicago area. They are intricately connected to the Chicago machine. It's hilarious that they would then act like they are separate from Chicago politics.

I think we should look at this idea seriously. The Urban Lima islands of the US are not representative of the rest of the country and in so many states one big city can dominate the rest of the state and all the politics of the state. Seattle and Washington are a good example.

These places are really alien city states anyway.

There is a battle going on and its one that rural communities probably cannot win. Hopefully a few can carry on and create their bulwark against the corrosive forces of cultural decline. Something or someone like this could be helpful for the highly skilled and motivated types. But there are others that are not really that competent or capable. Its still illustrative of an alternative to the city. And you can extrapolate from this life and apply that which you can.

The distance between Metro areas of the US and rural areas are too great to bridge.

The Constitution is set up to handle all these issues though if we just fucking followed the law!

Yea and those issues developed long ago. Circa 1840s-1900.

Really... So what part of the state has the highest pension debt obligations?

Illinois gas tax doubles today, with automatic increases scheduled forever
The new law also ties the state’s gas tax to inflation, meaning it will automatically rise in future years without lawmakers facing any constituent backlash.
And it isn’t just drivers feeling the pinch today: Other provisions of Pritzker’s capital plan taking effect July 1 include tax hikes on tobacco, e-cigarettes, video gaming and more.
State lawmakers argued that higher taxes are a “tough but necessary” sacrifice

If you want to imagine what the US will look like if the electoral college is removed just look at Illinois, Washington and Oregon. These states have just a few giant urban areas of packed unsustainable dense populations and they do whatever the hell they want to the rest of the state.

Muh metro.

Just some highlights:

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

. . .

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

. . .

He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.

He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.

He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.

. . .

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

Think locally, act locally.

Look what the Bay Area and Southland have done to the rest of CA
